"Such a cool historic hotel with modern conveniences but old time opulence. 2 restaurants. A very fine dining one. Reservations required. A wine/coffee bar that also serves breakfast and sandwiches. Breakfast isn't free but well worth paying. Also a speakeasy bar. We didn't get a chance to visit. Valet parking for a fee but also street parking or car ramps. Very friendly staff. Extremely clean and comfortable. Best stay. Actually reasonable for the higher rate hotel. "
"Really enjoyed the Des Lux. All of the staff were wonderful from the front desk, breakfast staff, housekeeping and bar. We splurged on Room 504--a decadent suite on the top floor with high ceilings, tons of windows looking down Locust, fireplace, wet bar, jacuzzi tub and separate shower. The room was quiet and relaxing.
The only things missing were a robe hook in the bathroom and wine glasses. Water glasses are provided, but actual wine glasses would be nice. The bar was closed on Sunday, but there are other options nearby downtown, and with the mini bar, ice a few steps away down the hall, and Instacart, you can easily relax with a drink in your room.
Parking is easy and inexpensive in the garage across the street.
There is a beautiful lounge area in the lobby where we hung out with family members, who also stayed at Des Lux. The bartender on Friday and Saturday of our stay was really nice.
Overall, Des Lux has a vintage, boutique feel that is difficult to find where I currently live in central Oregon.
We'll definitely stay at the Des Lux again when we return to Des Moines!"
"The AC wasn't working right, so we got moved to a new room with an upgrade. The breakfast was the best I have seen with even a few vegetables available and one type of cereals that was gluten-free. The view was the only downside but we loved being downtown."
