"Very nice, modern hotel close to Takayama train and bus station and the old town. The hotel is modern, rooms are reasonably compact but very nice, clean and modern. The spa is nice with great views over the city. Takayama is lovely and very pretty with some very good restaurants. Shirakawa-go well worth the 50.min trip from Takayama. Definitely recommend the Amanek hotel"

"Miyama Ouan has a lovely staff and is a fine place to stay. We had a good experience here and the setting in the mountains is beautiful. The property is dated and needs renovation. We spent the same amount of money elsewhere in Japan at far nicer ryokans. They need to spend a couple million dollars to update the rooms and the common areas. We felt it was not the best value for the money. Also, they do not have any western breakfast options, which is a negative for the price. A Japanese breakfast is basically the same as a Japanese dinner and for Americans, two Japanese dinners every day is not always that appealing. We liked Miyama Ouan, but would look at other options for the amount we paid."

"I really loved the traditional Japan vibe of the hotel it was amazing. Breakfast was delicious though mostly traditional Japanese they also had eggs potatoes bread sausage so there was variety. They also have a free shuttle bus that was great and convenient definitely recommend this hotel"

"The gentleman who manages the property was extremely helpful and accommodating. The property is beautifully located in a place surrounded by mountains. It’s a very peaceful and serene environment where you hear the birds and water flowing at night. Very lovely stay before heading to the city. Taxi’s exist between the Hida-Osaka train station and the campsite."

"This place had the feel of a "best-kept-secret"; gem-of-a-find type place. Everything about staying there was fascinating. As the management, to their credit, explicitly warns on their listings, the structure is old and rustic. But this wasn't a deterrent in any way, it adds to the charm and they do an excellent job keeping it clean, well maintained and accommodating. As a westerner looking to explore some backwaters parts of Japan and stay in a traditional Onsen ryokan that is not a tourist trap, this was the perfect best-of-both-worlds fit. The manager spoke good English and was helpful so that there was no confusion or culture shock, but none of the authenticity was compromised. I would certainly stay there again, even go out of my way again - drive up to the mountains - in order to stay there if overnighting en route to or from Tokyo southward."
