We recently stayed at The Ocean View Hotel from 13th–15th February and unfortunately were very disappointed with our experience.
We chose this hotel specifically because of the facilities advertised on the website, including a swimming pool, bar, coffee shop, evening dining, jazz club with cocktail bar, and the daily “Happy Hour” promotion. These amenities were a major factor in booking what we hoped would be a relaxing weekend break.
However, on arrival—and throughout our stay—we discovered that the swimming pool, bar, coffee shop, and evening dining were all closed. There had been no prior notice of these closures on the website or in our booking confirmation email. To make matters more frustrating, there were posters displayed around the hotel advertising “Happy Hour” from 4–6pm daily, despite the bar not being open.
Breakfast was also an additional charge, and while convenient, we found that far better quality and more reasonably priced breakfast options were available just a short walk away in the town centre.
The lack of communication felt misleading, as the facilities advertised were simply not available. Had we known in advance, we would likely have chosen alternative accommodation.
While the stay itself may suit guests who only require a room, (if you don’t mind a bed without a headboard), we feel the hotel should be transparent about which amenities are operational. Clear and accurate information would help manage expectations and avoid disappointment.

Awesome hotel clearly in need of renovations but we loved the view and it suited our purpose for the price. The waiter at breakfast and hotel receptionist were friendly and welcoming. Check in and parking no problem.

Pleasant, convenient and very friendly hotel with great staff. Very nice breakfast and evening meals.
We had a very nice sea facing room with a good bed. Handy for the sea front and Shanklin.

The hotel is in a terrible state of repair . The public areas and our room did not look like it had been redecorated or re furnished in decades.The outside pathways are broken and hazardous . The garden is sad and uncared for with a broken lamp on the steps . The entrance door is broken and the lift is broken . The restaurant has cobwebs on the ceiling and a dead / dying plant in the corner .Our room had old / scratched furniture ,a joke of a hot drinks facility ,cheap kettle . The bathroom was ancient and the hand basin’s plug hole did not look like it had seen bleach in sometime .Tiny , supposed double bed .It is a shame as the room size is good and the sea view wonderful . The staff were pleasant but the overall impact of the hotel is thoroughly depressing . We had booked for 2 nights but stayed for only one .

We had a good stay! (4 nights)
On the whole defo 5*! Great location and views. Very friendly staff. Has Indoor swimming pool and we had Breakfast included. Has a bar / lounge area and a welcome feel. Will mention rooms and hotel are a bit dated and onsite parking but limited. But I don’t think they pretend to be a modern hotel.

The hotel is in poor condition. The photos on the website are very misleading. The room had poor decor. Communal areas need updating and cleaning.

Stayed here for a night booked online really late at night and was greeted at reception by a very pleasant and helpful young lad whose manners and customer service were second to none (very good), the hotel lobby, hallways and room is exceptionally clean to a high standard and the room was to a high standard. Will be coming back for a longer stay next time and would certainly recommend to friends and family or people in general 👍

Our experience
On arrival to the hotel it was a pretty foyer we were dealt with quickly but not personally ie how are you today how far have you come,our bedroom was dated but the veiws were amazing,we were half board food was above average and presentation was good service was good but no one really in charge of a young team so no consistency we were also segregated from the other guests which was very noticeable it was very apparent the the hotel has been take oven recently and there were different owns to parts of the business with in the hotel which didn't gel together for a full experience of been on holiday and being look after but they were very conscientious in there areas there was alot of work going on but it didn't interfere with us using all amenities and l believe it will be lovely when it is finished , on day of check out l request my breakfast early 8.am to enable me to make my travel home ,bus ferry,train but the reception could grant this and didn't seem to want to then on check out it was nonexistent just told to leave key on the desk ,so on whole there was so great thing but also something to think about l wish you great success

Definitely not deserving of 3 stars!!!
I will start with the best thing I can say.
I was allowed to check in early at 9am after explaining that i was feeling unwell and for that I gave service 2 stars.
My room was very disappointing. It did not match photographs online. The carpet was dirty and very worn, the paint on all the furniture was chipped and they didn't bother to put on a valance sheet on the singe bed; the base box was visable.
The beds and pillows were very uncomfortable. I left with a severe back and neck pain.
The room was cleaned before I arrived and housekeeping attended after the first night.
However, they did not attend after the second night, the only thing that was cleaned was the bin. The balcony was dirty on my arrival and I had to clean the chairs myself to sit.
The railing of the balcony was unsecured and thwre were workmen next to my windows, so I did not feel comfortable opening the drapes all the way during the day.
Breakfast was a stressful process, the wait to be seated and served was very long, food arrived cold. Some of the cups on yhe table were not clean and I could not drink tea or coffee at all on the first day.
I expalined to the staff on the first day that I was not comfortable and would like a room change and was ignored.
Overall the hotel seems to be in a state of disrepair.
I am very disheartened I try to avoid chain hotels when I can and support local but this will make me rethink that.

After spending one night at this hotel, I ended up with bright red itchy spots all over my body. I don’t know if it was bed bugs, but they definitely ate not mosquito bites.
The room is incredibly outdated. The room door lock has paint chipping and peeling. There was a step into the bathroom, which looked quite bizarre. The bathroom floor was wallpapered and the wallpaper was starting to bubble up and peel off, it was also very creaky and made sounds with every movement.
Parking was free but it was a nightmare. It took me at least 15 minutes to get out of my parking space. It was back and forth making tiny micro-adjustments until I was able to get out.
The only perk to the hotel is the location, but there are plenty of other hotels located on the same road/a couple roads down.

A lovely view from the room and so convenient for the cliff lift to get down to the beach and beachfront entertainment and food. Upon check in we were greeted warmly. Strange that there were no lamps in the room when we entered but reception provided us with a lamp for each bedside table in a short time. Only 2 mugs provided for a 3 people stay and biscuits and toiletries were not topped up throughout our stay. However that said, the food at breakfast and for the evening meal was excellent. Good choices for both main and dessert. The seagulls were rather bold pinching food off the terrace table! Easy walk to catch bus to the needles and wildlife sanctuary. 10 minute walk to Shanklin chine.

Very bad condition of the room when we first walked in the room it was smelly ,very dirty carpets looked like it wasn’t cleaned for ages .the gallery needs a cleaning sticky everywhere bed needs to be changed as it makes noise every time you move , we stayed for 2 nights the next day I thought they will hoover the carpet but they didn’t even bother to change the bins and left the used towels for us to use again our breakfast was included the staff didn’t even smile at all we greeted the lady with good morning she just turned around and walked away which was really rude we felt like they were only talking to people nicely who they felt like to the staff needs more training and the building and the rooms need renovations
