"Rooms are small but staff helpful"

"Our rooms both smelled like cigarette smoke and there was confusion over one of the rooms that we had booked for three people, but which only had 2 single beds. It should have never been listed as being available for 3 people, and it took about 45 minutes to get it sorted out with the staff saying the disclosures should have told us it only had beds for 2 people. But then why did it ever show up as an option for 3 people through hotels.com? They had breakfast passes for 3 people for that room so clearly knew 3 were staying there, but there were still only beds for 2 people. "

"We enjoyed our one night in this Ryokan. It was fun and authentic. There was a certian peace and relaxed mode that it put us on. We are a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens). The room #24 was spacious, clean, and well kept. Yes, we wore the provided pajamas/yukata. The shower had great pressure and was also spacious. Friendly staff and food at the restaurant was yummy. The gardens were beautiful traditional Japanese gardens. As always, loved the toilet/bidet. Loved this spot!"

"The Hotel's shuttle picked us up at the train station. There's not too much within walking distance. We splurged for the delux room with private onsen. It was fun to have a suite with classic Japanese flair ... bamboo floor mats, sliding panel paper doors, etc. Nice view of the lake."

"A very nice functional hotel in an area of Kyoto that you can get to several other areas (Nishiki Market, Gion, Hagashiyama and more) fairly easily either on foot or a short taxi ride. The staff we extremely helpful and friendly. If you are looking for luxury and extra comfort, this is not that place, but it was comfortable for me and I would highly recommend for any traveler that wants a solid place to stay. "

Modern and extremely clean, fantastic location (5 min walk from both Karasuma and Tozai subway lines which made exploring the city manageable), located on a side street (quiet), kind, helpful and gracious staff (who gave us great recommendations re: navigating the bus system). "Though I only stayed there for one day, the trip was very pleasant! Several of the employees speak perfect English, they were very accommodating and very helpful. The dinner and breakfast were both delicious, the breakfast being a buffet that had very many options in case you are a picky eater. Both of the private onsens were also very nice "
