Selva Verde Lodge

"Amazing and unique in a middle of a jungle- you can tell they’ve invested a lot of money and love into the property"

Ara Ambigua Lodge
10/10 Excellent
"Property is surrounded by gardens who look pretty much as forest, you can walk by trails, or you can have access to real forest outside, but at the same time great location, 600 m from main road, little town and 8 minute driving to main Town Puerto Viejo. I have to start with EV Charger, great thing for the area. Rooms are little updated but clean, and fair size, they have couches and a balcony that really upgrade the room, cold AC, Tv, good internet, you will rest in that bed. Restaurant inside is a nice touch, breakfast is very good, typical, buffet and plenty of options, the restaurant have meals that they are not exceptional, but not bad. Sarapiquí is rainy, a lot of humidity, nevertheless the pool area is nice, clear water, fair medium size, I believe best amenitie of the hotel. But you have to commend THE STAFF, allof them are exceptional, they will work around any issue, so you feel safe and with typical Pura Vida Costa Rican Hospitality."

"Maravilloso lugar para desconectarse y descansar"

La Laguna del Lagarto Eco-Lodge
10/10 Excellent
"Great place if you are looking to do bird watching and other nature related activities. The bird feeders not only attract an incredible amount of birds but also some other mammals such as the Agouti and the Coati. The area is known for sightings of the King Vulture, all types of toucans, tanagers, parrots, etc. Including a Cayman that lives in the lagoon. They also have trails. Food was good, specially breakfast."

Maquenque Lodge

"This is a barely discovered gem, a rare destination that will leave you with lifelong memories. We stayed here 9 years ago, and returned this summer. The rainforest location is unique. We stayed in a treehouse, with frequent visits from spider monkeys and seemingly endless species of birds. We partook for a second time the riverboat tour through the local rainforest, up through the Nicaragua border. We saw spectacular macaws, toucans, and numerous other bird species. We encountered crocodiles, circling vultures over cow pastures, a green river snake swimming at the town boat dock. We saw other monkey species hanging out in the trees, iguanas… But perhaps most memorable to us was the genuineness of the Eco Lodge staff. Many are local, and share with us their pride in their community. Their true warmth allows us to experience the rainforest, not as a visiting tourist, but as a proud local. The guides are wonderful! They are smart, engaging and passionate. Even on our return boat ride across the river to the parking area, the staff member took a slight detour to point out colorful macaws eating fruit in a tree on the riverbank. We came with our family, there were tourists of all ages, from young children to older retirees. Our binoculars and telephoto lenses got quite the workout! While we are not professional birdwatchers, the diversity was remarkable. And, we found fellow tourists to be grounded, appreciative of life and the opportunity. Thank you staff!!!"

8/10 Good
"Location & Property: The hotel is located about 15 minutes from Puerto Viejo, on the road towards La Fortuna. The property is very pleasant and well maintained, with the rooms spread across different cabins connected by paths. The setting feels peaceful and surrounded by nature, making it a nice place to relax and enjoy the jungle. Room: Our room was clean and comfortable, although quite basic. The bed was comfortable and the room had air conditioning, but there was no TV or fridge. The bathroom was clean and functional, with a shower and basic toiletries. Breakfast: Breakfast was fairly standard, with coffee, juices, and a selection of hot and cold dishes. Nothing particularly special, but it was more than enough to get the day started. Facilities & Surroundings: There is a nice swimming pool, although we didn't get to use it because of the heavy rain during our stay. The property also has several paths where you can walk around and enjoy the surrounding jungle. There is even a pond with alligators. We went to have a look, although unfortunately we weren't lucky enough to see any. All things considered, this is a nice place to stay if you're exploring the area or simply looking for a comfortable stopover. It would also be a good option when travelling between Tortuguero and La Fortuna."
