"Hotel Castelmar is an okay hotel with a lot of historic charm. The beautiful antique/colonial style gives the property character, and the location is very convenient. However, the hotel is definitely showing its age and is in need of better maintenance and some updating. With a little more attention to the rooms and facilities, it could be a much nicer experience. Overall, a decent stay if you appreciate historic hotels, but"

"Lovely stay. Staff were attentive and helpful. The room and bathroom were large and comfortable, and air conditioning worked well. The neighborhood is a ten-minute walk from the centro in a quiet, residential area. I felt safe walking back and forth at night. The highlight for me was the pool: clean, clear and refreshing and a great setting to cool off and relax, which is so important in the Campeche heat! Breakfast is just pan Bimbo (white bread) with Nutella or jam, and coffee. Will definitely stay here again."

"Loved this hotel. Lots of character. The room was a good size, and the location was perfect. We were about half way through our roadtrip, so it was perfect timing to come here - there is a washing machine and tumble drier you can use at no cost."

"Location is convenient to walking along the water and a long walk/short drive to the old city. Taxi drivers aren't familiar with the hotel, so come prepared with the address (and finding a taxi outside the hotel is difficult). Rooms are basic but clean. Showers are hot and pressure is good. Wifi is SUPER FAST. There's a kitchen that has the basics for cooking. I stayed in room 1, and I recommend not staying in this room. My window faced the sidewalk/public street and people would always look into my window when they walked by/I heard cars outside when trying to sleep/visitors would knock on my window asking me to open the door to the hotel. I wound up keeping the curtains closed at most times to maintain privacy. The breakfast is free but extremely basic: just white bread and black coffee. Overall it's not a bad place to stay, and staff were friendly when I forgot something and asked them to mail it to my next hotel in another city."
