We will be back!

We had a great stay and will definitely come back with friends. The resort offers a very good breakfast included in the price and the area is very nice to explore, enjoy the beach, go golfing, walk to the local towns and relax. I wish we booked for at least one more night to see more, but we have a reason to come back!

The hotel and the room we stayed was very clean. Right next to the beach, lovely view through the balcony as we had sea view. The weather wasn't very hood as we stayed at the beginning of November, nonetheless we enjoyed our stay.

The beach and grounds of the hotel are amazing. The hotel is good but needs some tlc as the rooms are in a tired state. The view from our seaview room was lovely. It was during a holiday so there were a lot of families and small children around. Breakfast was good but not great and always very busy.

A fabulous base!

Would recommend staying on a b&b basis if you are mobile. There are lots of fabulous restaurants a 10-15 minute walk away (or a 5 minute taxi ride). This hotel is a great base for lovely walks along the boardwalk. Staff are great, breakfast is ample and certainly covers everything. Rooms are comfortable and clean. I would stay here again.

Lovely 4 night trip

Had a lovely 4 night stay in the Dom Joao recently. Have been before but standards are still excellent. Lots more choice for breakfast than when I last visited (quite a few years ago) and dining hall and outside are clean and well kept. Gym is well equipped and spacious, pool is lovely and room was great with a nice view of the pool and sea from the balcony. Garden area is lovely. Great location by the beach and walking distance to Alvor.

I liked convenient location - midway between Sagres/Lagos and Faro. I didn’t like the fenced in property making it more challenging to get to boardwalk/beach. And surrounding hotels(?) properties look abandoned and unkept.

PROS: The property is very beautiful and the location is perfect. The snack bar near the beach is a nice touch for people to enjoy a drink near the beach with live music and watch the sunset. It is pretty quiet and peaceful for a resort. Very family-oriented. Free breakfast. There are plenty of good restaurants around the property that are fairly cheap but amazing. CONS: Lacking in good service from the snack bar near the pool. Everytime we order, it takes atleast 30 minutes to come and the servers do not pay attention enough to get the orders correct. All the amenties close too early like the pool, gym and spa. Themed buffet is too pricey.

Very nice hotel. Food very nice and lots of choice

Second time here. Much busier than last visit. Reception very friendly and helpful. Breakfast very nice with plenty of offerings. Had buffet dinner on last night for €60 for 2 people with 1 drink each. We ordered a bottle of wine and asked how much extra we had to pay and the head waiter said he wouldn’t charge us any extra which I thought was a really nice touch and very customer focussed. Bravo If I had anything negative to say it would be the amount of people reserving sunbeds and leaving the for hours. The hotel should maybe have some policy to remove them after a certain time as we hat to sit on the grass around the pool

Staff amazing but hotel needs a revamp

The staff were nothing but wonderful. Lovely and helpful people! However the hotel itself needed a revamp. The room we stayed in looked a little run down. Not worth the price we paid for in my opinion. Air conditioning was not working. Had some water dripping from the ceiling into our cupboard. One of my bags got soaked as I did not recognise until later one. Apart from this the staff were fantastic, friendly and welcoming too

A very clean and modern property. The location is very walkable to shopping and great restaurants. Every floor has a large lobby with a fabulous beach view so even the rooms on the back get to appreciate it.

The property was in a good location next to the beach and an easy walk into the town (Alvor). Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was generally good and well managed but certain items (eg. fruit juices) were poor quality.

Decent for the price

Stay was pretty good, food was limited for lunch and rather pricy. Buffett every breakfast and dinner. No beach chairs so had to always stay near the pool.
