Fabulous find - highly recommend
Check in was smooth, the lady spent time giving us a few tips on places to park and visit. We had an excellent comfort room. Bed was firm which we like. Pillows weren't the best (bit lumpy) but still slept ok. Glad of the air con as we arrived at the start of a mini heatwave. Need instructions for the Nespresso machine, really couldn't get a proper cup out of it so ended up drinking tea with the kettle provided. Lovely bathroom and shower, though surprised not to have hand wash or soap for the sink. We used the tube of shampoo provided. Body wash was an individual sachet and adequate for a shower each. Loved the scent! Room was cleaned daily. We had a good breakfast for two of our days. Full continental with a wide variety of cheeses, meats, smoked salmon, cereals, fresh fruit and berries, yoghurt, rolls, bread and pastries. Cooked eggs however you wanted were offered too. Restaurant was excellent too. Highly recommend the chicken Caesar salad and pork cheeks. Good selection of local beers. We ate there two nights (it was closed on Tues & Weds). Beautiful setting in the corner of the square. Parking overnight in the square was only €2 from 17:00 onwards and covered right through till between 9-11am. (Free parking 1800-0800).

We are sorry to read this poor review. There is the annual fair one time in the year for 10 days. That causes some ambiance in the city-center. We didn't even proceed the check-in and there is the refund of your stay we took care of. We are astonished with this number because the bed hadn't even slept in.

Great location, great breakfast, comfy room, and lovely staff. Also pretty close to a few awesome breweries.. Been there a few times now and will definitely go back again.

Lovely hotel, friendly staff and very clean. Try to avoid Mondays and Tuesdays as the restaurant is closed but there are lovey places to eat nearby. 10/10

Amfora - March 2018
Both the main hotel, which is above the bar/restaurant area (no noise bleed through), and the annexe (1 minute further down the street) are lovely. Annexe very modern; main hotel more traditional decor. Water temperature setting in the shower is not as hot as I would have expected. Breakfast is very good - if you like the white on your eggs to be cooked ask for well done as the style in Belgium is for rather less well cooked eggs. Staff are lovely and very helpful. Parking is in general car parks within a 5-10 minute walk of the hotel. A pleasure to stay here.

Poperinge is an amazing town with an amazing history. The Friday morning farmers market was amazing, everything you could possibly want for a picnic, but the wine or beer.

Really nice hotel on the main square
I stayed here for two nights during the recent commemorations for the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Passchendaele. I arrived by train and the hotel is a 10 minute walk from the railway station. The hotel is superbly located on the main square and has a bar & restaurant popular with locals and visitors alike. Behind the elegant old façade is a modern hotel which has been finished to a high standard. The rooms are spotlessly clean and mine had a wall-mounted air conditioning unit which was useful as temperatures were in the high twenties when I was there. Staff were extremely helpful and accommodating and the service I received throughout my stay was excellent. I'd definitely stay here again. My only complaint is that I was repeatedly bitten by mosquitos during both nights I was there although, in fairness, the hotel has fitted mosquito nets to the windows and thus done everything they reasonably could be expected to do to alleviate this problem. I'd just suggest that, if like me you're a magnet for mosquitos, and you're visiting in Summer, make sure you take both plug-in and aerosol repellents with you.

This was the 2nd time I stayed at the Amfora and was further impressed by the friendliness of the welcome as well as the comfort and decor of the bedroom. It was was spotlessly clean, had a large comfortable double bed and a large comfortable bath! This is an excellent hotel with a very good restaurant and a sunny terrace, it was a real pleasure to stay there.

Wonderful
Very pleasant staff, 10/10 for the kitchen and chef. The staff are ALL POLITE, friendly, and very keen. They all go out of their way for the customer. They owners greet you with a smile, every minute of the day. Everything that is to be done, is done quickly and correctly, and always with a smile. The daughter is a true spirit at the Amfora. Very cute historic hotel in the picturesque Poperinge square surrounded by local pubs and cathedrals. Especially great considering the very modest price. The hotel restaurant was excellent and mostly populated by locals. Service was great. Biking distance to famous local breweries (St. Sixtus Westvleteran and St. Bernardus) and walking distance to the Hop Museum, so a great choice for beer lovers.

2 night stay at the Amfora, Lovely location in the town square, close to local amentities. Very comfortable bed and clean room. Helpful and pleasant staff. Short drive to Ypres and the many historic sites and WW1 related museums etc in Poperinge and Ypres well worth visiting.

Lovely Hotel.
A traditional style Belgian hotel, with well decorated and well appointed bedrooms, situated in the square of Popperinge. Here one can soak up the cafe culture atmosphere of small town Belgium. A nice selection of shops and restaurants, and a town steeped in history.

We spent 3 nights in the Amfora. The staff & owners were extremely helpful & welcoming. We will definitely come & stay here again . We had the de luxe room & it was spacious & well furnished complete with air conditioning. The bath was to die for huge & luxurious.

What a Gem!
The staff was friendly and spoke English, the restaurant was superb, the room was large and very clean. Love this little hotel right in the square, you can sit on their patio and watch the comings and goings of the locals while enjoying a cafe or a cocktail.

Lovely Hotel- a must stay
Great location, staff, breakfast- definatly stay here again.Shame the restaurant was not open the night we stayed. public parking but not too much of a problem as it is right outside the hotel.If you are visiting the WW1 sites I recommend this hotel.

Well situated in the middle of the town. You might have to go round twice to suss out the one-way system! Free parking is a couple of minutes walk away. Initial impression of reception & stairs is not so good but once you are in the room and in the dining room it is all fine. The staff are very friendly and helpful and their restaurant serves good food. All in all very satisfied with this choice.

Poperinge and the Amfora hotel are gems in Flanders fields. Rarely have we found a hotel which is as clean and comfortable with very friendly owners/staff. Nothing was too much bother. Free parking just round the corner from the hotel was available. Our two rooms were light and airy, well equipped and the beds very comfortable. The hotel terrace catches the evening sun which can be enjoyed with a drink then a bite to eat. Food was excellent as was the service. It is a hotel to return to just to enjoy for itself.

A VERY quiet town (now!), but a lovely family-run hotel -- everyone was very welcoming, food excellent, and room light and comfortable. Warning: Do not try to eat in Poperinghe at 9 p.m. because the kitchens close everywhere -- same in Ypres.....

Great location, right on market square. Our room was quite large and very quiet thanks to the double glazed windows. Delicious breakfast. We had to park our car around the corner (about 150metres) from the hotel as there were markets on in the square the following morning.

Very centrally located in characterful neo-Gothic building with large garden. Friendly welcome. Upgraded from single room to large comfortable high-ceilinged room overlooking market square, church and town hall belfry. Chandelier, tea/coffee, air-con, large bathroom and bath. Buffet breakfast with bacon and eggs. No English TV channels. A pleasant historic town handy for exploring WW1 sites and enjoying Belgian beer.

A lovely hotel to stay in.
This hotel is in the centre of Poperingen, opposite the market square. Market day was the next day so we couldn't park in the square but the man who checked us in very kindly rode with me in my car to show me a free parking area within easy walking distance. The hotel is small and charming and our room was beautifully decorated. We didn't eat in the hotel as it was quiet but instead went for a walk and came across a busy Hotel de Ville restaurant where we had a very nice and reasonably priced meal.

Delightful Hotel
We stayed here for one night on our way back to Scotland from the South of France as we were keen to see some of the WW1 sites before getting the ferry at Zeebrugge. The Amfora was perfectly situated for this, situated in the beautiful square of Poperinghe and close to Ypres. The hotel was a delight. Our room was spacious and well-maintained with all the amenities one would wish for. Breakfast was excellent, if a little pricy and our only complaint was that we could not sample the evening meal as the restaurant was closed for the evening. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it for anyone looking for a decent hotel in the area.

Great Hotel
My stay in the Amfora was for one night only, but that night's stay was fantastic. The restaurant is of very, very high quality and the staff are professional in their work and very helpful. The cleanliness of the room I was in was faultless and I had a good night's sleep with no problems. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel if you are visiting Poperinge.

Imposing hotel in the Grote Markt of which we had a fabulous view from our de-luxe room (room 2). The hotel has an olde-worldy charm about it which is reflected throughout. Appearance of the room was clean and inviting with lace-edged bed linen. Good-quality towels, dressing gowns and toiletries also provided in the spacious bathroom which had two sinks and separate toilet. Would definitely stay here again.

Very comfortable hotel, convenient for visiting the Military Cemetery at Lijssenthoek. Friendly staff and excellent restaurant for dinner and breakfast.
