Algila' Ortigia Charme Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"The style and age of the building was baroque and elegant, well maintained and a very comfortable room. Loved the bathroom and toiletries, and the maids kept the room very clean and adequately supplied with water and toiletries. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice and cooked breakfast to order. Kitchen staff were very hard working, and ordering food could have been simplified, but when it did arrive was very well cooked. The reception staff were very professional and exceedingly helpful and courteous in helping us to find our way, and to book tours.We really enjoyed our afternoon tea in the annexe building, and appreciated the lovely music played, which was very appropriate and classical. A really lovely hotel ideally situated in the heart of Ortigia, which is a beautiful work of art. Would love to return some day."

"Large older hotel, built in 1862 but renovated. Quiet. Situated in an historic park. Many bus tours stay here. Rooms are clean, fairly large and adequately equipped. Bed needs to be upgraded, mattress is hard and uncomfortable. Shower is in the bathtub, you need to step over the bathtub to access. Limited views from rooms. Convenient city bus stop not far from the main gate to access downtown and Ortigia. Free parking for those with rental cars. Breakfast is okay, typical large group buffet-style with chaotic frenzy to grab fresh items in limited quantities. Restaurant for dinner is okay but overpriced. Much better dining options in town."
