This is an exceptional property set in a beautiful rural location with exquisite views over landscaped gardens. It is so peaceful that you feel as though you’re miles from anywhere when you’re actually only 2km (a lovely walk!) from the town boundary. The cottage is incredibly well set up with everything you might need and Shona and Tony are fantastic hosts - friendly and helpful, and on hand if you need anything. We booked the cottage at short notice for a quick retreat after a busy week, and we only had two days free, but we would definitely have stayed longer otherwise. The memory of sitting on the lovely wide deck, soaking up the view, breathing in the country air, inhaling the fragrance of the garden and listening to the birdsong (I forgot to mention the host of NZ native birds that grace the gardens!) will sustain us for a long time…and we’ll be back!

Awful. Extremely rude check-in where the lady lectured me about electricity. Then no wifi. Plus it's on the middle of nowhere out of cell phone coverage. One of the worst hotel stays I've ever had.

Hidden Luxury Gem

This place is a hidden gem. Beautiful well appointed with modern appliances. The bed is super comfortable. Worth driving the few kilometres up from the main road. Walk around the grounds and be enveloped by the peace and quiet. A super freindly welcome by the host. Highly recomend.

Well-Appointed Bliss

We had an enchanting, relaxing weekend away from the city at Matai Huka. The suite is its own house, adjacent to the owners' home but certainly private enough. Stunning grounds kept up pristinely, with some wildlife on the pond! We could have done with a better heating option at night (we found blankets, and two portable heaters in the end!) The oven was broken at the time we went, but the owners were so accommodating with alternative options it was easy to forget, and we had not planned to do much cooking anyway. It would have been nice to know in advance, as I imagine some would have been more affected than we were, but really no big deal. The only downside was the lack of cell service (if you have 2 Degrees, forget about it. The area is apparently a notorious blackout zone) and poor wifi connection. Yes, it was free but it barely worked unless we went into the back of the kitchen or the shared outdoor space between the houses. Bring a book and prepare to spend your stay off grid!

modern and comfortable apartment

This trip to Wellington was a long weekend with long drives , and we hoped for a lovely warm and comfortable place to stay. It surpassed our expectations, with the added bonus of beautiful landscaping surrounding the cosy apartment in restful countryside. We have already recommended it to our friends. Thank you for the generous touch of treats for us and the helpful information on the area.
