The Pacifica Region of Colombia is a stretch of coast known for its incredible flora and fauna and local traditions. Certain parts of the state encounter the highest rainfall in the world, making for a region rich in biodiversity. Hike through tropical rainforests, mangroves and swamps for a glimpse into the fascinating natural realm of the region.

Among the highlights is Cali, known as the salsa capital of the world. Stroll through the downtown area and take photos of historic sights, including the 18th-century Cali Cathedral and the Jorge Isaacs Theater. Gaze up at the iconic Las Tres Cruces Hill to see the three crosses that loom over the city. Look at colorful street art in Loma de la Cruz Park, before visiting the nearby Jovita Monument, a statue of the “Queen of Cali.” The Cane Aquapark is a great family attraction with pools and winding waterslides.

Explore Cali’s neighboring towns in the Valle del Cauca. Visit the small settlements of Cartago and Tulua and stop by Buenaventura, the largest seaport in the country. Unwind by relaxing on the nearby scenic bays, including La Barra Beach, Juanchaco Beach and Ladrilleros Beach.

Travel south for five hours to reach Popayán, the White City of Colombia. Stroll through its historic center to see the whitewashed colonial buildings, such as the Popayán Cathedral and Torre del Reloj, that have given rise to the city’s nickname. Not far from the city is the undulating terrain of the Purace National Nature Park, where there is an active volcano.

Head north to the Chocó department and learn about its Afro-Colombia traditions in the department’s capital city, Quibdo. Northwest of here is the Utria National Park. Capture photos of its mossy mountains, tropical forests and the beaches and mangroves that flank the coast. Travel further north to reach the Los Katios National Park, a stunning wetland area.

The Pacifica area stretches along the western coast of Colombia, from the border with Ecuador to that of Panama. Fly to Cali Airport in Palmira and get around the cities by bus and taxi.

Note that the region experiences high amounts of rainfall and storms at certain points of the year. The southern coastal region has a tropical climate consisting of wet and dry seasons and hot weather year-round.

Pacifica is a district of great biodiversity, stunning natural sights and fascinating towns.

"It’s a dated hotel. The gym is unusable. The decor is from the 1980’s, no hotel boutique. The good is ok."
