This hotel is in a prime location, but needs a lot of love. Our keys never worked. Had to keep going back down to get them reprogrammed. Just not very clean as the carpet in the rooms barely looked vacuumed. Just very outdated and needs an overall make over. Shouldn’t be like this as it’s in a very very prime location for Oneonta.

Property could be beautiful. Right on Main Street, very conveniently located however in need of a refurbishing. Carpets are old and dingy and the furniture in the rooms very dated. Double sized beds only but they were comfortable. Staff friendly although I only encounter check in/out person.

Worst experience ever at hotel
Check in experience was wonderful. That young lady was very friendly and helpful. All I know is she had four kids. I don’t know her name. But felt good checking in. The bathroom gave us trouble. Needed to call for a toilet plunger which the nice girl brought up right away and asked if we wanted her to plunge it for us. We said no. But the offer was there and appreciated. The toilet ran off an on all night and the exhaust fan did not work. Would not have complained about it but we did want to upgrade to another room. Pay them more money and upgrade. The front desk lady in the morning said basically they had no rooms. Even though the parking lot was empty. She didn’t even look at her computer to see when it would be ready. She just said most people just extend their stay in same room. She was extremely rude and condescending. We booked an upgraded room on hotels.com and asked for upgraded room w/early check in,told them why. That same horrible lady called five minutes later and lied and said I complained that “nothing worked in the room”. That’s not at all what I said.She said “I TRIED to EXPLAIN TO YOUR HUSBAND” that we have no clean rooms and she then said nothing would be ready until at least 3pm. I feel this was out of spite. They were not even going to try to get it ready early. I have never been treated so badly at a hotel that I was trying to give even more money. I already booked tonight but will never stay here again. And would not recommend it.

The exterior and lobby have been well kept. Our room was functional but dated. New carpet and a bathroom remodel would do wonders. The beds were actually pretty good. We were in room 216 on the parking lot side and "Jimmy T's" Cocktail Lounge next door was rock'n until 2am on a Friday night. So, unless you're planning to go over to Jimmy T's, get a room on the opposite side of the hotel. Breakfast was basic continental, coffee was hot on Saturday morning but cold on Sunday morning. I think it was the same coffee. Oh well...walked to local coffee shop on Main St. The price was right, $83 tax in early December. If the owners put just a little more $$ into it, The Marx would compete better in Oneonta.

Outstanding Hotel With Great Staff
Beautiful hotel with a very friendly staff. Room was clean and even had a working fireplace. Wall paper and rugs are a little worn but that wasn’t an issue for us. Close to Main Street, which was nice. Also has a pool and hot tub. The price was very reasonable and will definitely stay there again.

After review of your reservation it does show however you left your door open while smoking cannabis in our non smoking hotel which is why our housekeeping staff did not knock when the room was indeed propped open with you holding the joint in hand. The 250 charge for the damages is non negotiable since you signed an agreement at check in. We wish you the best in finding a hotel that suits your needs better next time you visit Oneonta.

Great Service
The parking lot was blocked off on one side due to a water main break and we were a little worried we were in the wrong place at first but we called the front desk and they were wonderful in explaining the situation. Our room was clean and comfortable, if a little dated. Overall a great hotel stay, if we’re ever in town again we’ll be coming back here to stay.

They try to give you a different room than booked
Overall pretty dirty and worn out hotel. They tried to give me a room with significantly different amenities than the one I booked on Hotels.com. After showing the amenities listed for the room I booked, the woman at reception said the listing must be wrong, and that she would only be able to give me the room that matched the price I paid. After a bit of back and forth with me insisting that it was the hotels responsibility to make sure that their listings are correct, she eventually agreed to give me the room that I booked (somewhat begrudgingly). The breakfast was pretty sparse with the one highlight being a make your own waffle station.

A Pleasant Surprise
I have been to Oneonta before, but this trip my "regular" hotel had raised prices so far that I needed to find a new place to stay. The Marx was recommended by the online site I use, and after a little investigation I decided to give it a try. The hotel exceeded my expectations. It was nice, clean, well provisioned. The desk staff was very friendly and helped with nearby restaurant recommendations. I was also upgraded to a room with a gas fireplace, and enjoyed the experience. While the hotel is rather new, it has the charm of an older, well-established hotel. Internet speed was GREAT, much better than almost every other hotel I have stayed at this year. The continental breakfast is limited, but for the price I was not disappointed.

The hotel isn’t in the greatest part of town, so I wasn’t expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel was clean and fairly quiet. I was there Halloween weekend, so perhaps that was why it was pretty loud. You could hear the reverie outside.

My friends and I stayed 1 night. The hotel is extremely outdated. Carpets look like they're from the 70's/80's, peeling wallpaper and cobwebs in the rooms. The beds were hard as a rock and felt like there was dust on the linens. The pool area looked like it hasn't been cleaned in months. It was dirty and there was skin or something like it floating in the hot tub. We were so grossed out we went straight back to the room. There was a jacuzzi tub in our room which was interesting. Our floor had a door that led right out to main street which was nice. I think this place is running still thanks to college students... Our floor smelled like vomit because of partying college students. Walls are also super thin. Breakfast was good and the staff was wonderful. I would rate this place a 6/10. Would I stay here again? Probably not.

Great stay, very good in reception, nice pool area, good little breakfast, easy parking, nice treat to have deep jacuzzi tub in bathroom For a hot bath on a chilly night. … (Only suggestion- separate type of guests- I.e. no students on same floor as normal guests! I had to step into hall & tell them To quiet down, but it didn’t affect our sleep. ….And needs new carpeting)
