"Lovely old pub. Staff were really nice. Only thing that went wrong was we were given a key to a room that was already occupied. We had to go back and get another room. It just un nerved us a bit as to how secure was your belongings if the staff didn’t check the room was empty first, having said this I would stay again. "

"The hotel is in a transition phase - they're in the midst of a reboot/refurb so things are still a bit up and down, though they did seem to be trying their best. I stayed in one of the finished rooms and everything was just as you would expect. Unfortunately the hotel was overbooked so my colleague had to stay in one of the incomplete rooms. This did not at all match the description or pictures and was an experience to say the least. I would make sure that they have not overbooked and that you are staying in one of the newer rooms, in which case this hotel matches expectations. They don't currently provide breakfast, although the dinner menu was fairly good."

"Everything was good, breakfast was not good, do not opt in for breakfast, they have a very small menu and only pastries and breads (not many options) are buffet , they do not have a coffee machine so you have to order and then they give you a black coffee made of instant coffee doesn’t taste good, you also have to place an order for eggs and they were okish"

"Fantastic hotel. We had a great stay in the Empress hotel. You can see the owner has not cut corners with fittings and facilities. Bathroom was very clean and new looking. I would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly. The only issue we had was, there were no toilet rolls in the bathroom. There's no staff on site so we called the remote support desk mine provided which was unmanned as well probably AI, so it took the request gave us the ticket number and then nothing. We purchased them for our needs from shops. Apart from this little issue, everything was so will kept that's I am still eating it top stars. If we are around Mexborough again, will definitely stay here again."

"Despite having a gym spa facility, if you don’t book direct they ask you to pay for them and request in future to go direct to get them included. Generally disappointed as I picked this hotel so I could access those facilities without paying £20 a day. Despite this the room was clean, tidy and what you would expect. Staff were also friendly so it’s a shame on this point as I’ll find somewhere else to stay in future"
