Find two of the gambling capitals of the world in this state. Beyond gambling, you’ll enjoy outdoor activities if you’re an adventurer or casual participant. The bright lights of Las Vegas and Reno draw millions to Nevada each year for gambling and entertainment. Outside the casinos in these cities are plenty of things for the whole family to enjoy.
Just walk along The Strip in Las Vegas and you’ll be in awe at the dazzling appearance of some of the world’s best-known casinos. See an exploding volcano at The Mirage, the Luxor ’s laser-topped pyramid, the Bellagio ’s animated water fountains and a replica of the Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas. Inside any of the more than 70 casinos in Las Vegas you’ll find slot machines, video poker, sports gambling and a variety of table games.
Many casinos now provide family-friendly activities. Stay at the MGM Grand for kids to enjoy its theme park. Circus Circus has a circus, as well as theme park rides and an IMAX theatre. You’ll still find dancing, lightly clad showgirls as well as popular star-studded concerts, long-running entertainers’ shows and endless food buffets. Check schedules for entertainment options and reserve big-name shows in advance.
Outside the casinos, hike in Red Rock Canyon, visit the aquarium at Mandalay Bay Shark Reef or take in a museum dedicated to neon signs. Less than an hour’s drive from the city, travel to the impressive Hoover Dam, which blocks the Colorado River to create Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the U.S. Stop in Henderson to play golf and visit the Botanical Cactus Gardens.
Northwest of Las Vegas, Reno offers gambling and entertainment on a smaller scale. Its proximity to northern California provides access to great skiing in the Lake Tahoe region. Visit Galena Creek Park for nature trails and educational events. Travel just south of Reno to Incline Village on Lake Tahoe. In addition to skiing and hiking in the resorts of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, enjoy swimming and boating on chilly Lake Tahoe.
Come to Nevada to realise that the state offers much more than gambling.
