this isn't like a hotel with 24 hour reception--we got in at about 4p and there was no one at the hostel at all. we got into the complex because of someone else who lived there and then the door happened to be open. we didn't have international phones, so we couldn't call to ask for someone to check us into our room, so we ended up using the internet to call hotels.com to help us find someone who worked at the hostel to let us in. the hostel itself is nice, a work in progress more than anything though. the bathroom shower flooded really easily and their kitchen was a portable stove-top. we were at the far end of the hotel and had to sit in the reception area to plan the remainder of our trip. the town of naples is scary, but i think the hotel was close to the downtown. we would have rather been close to the train station, or a metro station that connected to the train station. we ended up walking halfway to the hostel because the two metro lines didn't connect. but the staff at the art hostel was nice and tried to be helpful. it was hard because we don't speak italian and the man at reception didn't speak english. but it wasn't bad at all.
