A Royal Treat in Heysham..!
We booked several rooms at The Royal Heysham for 23rd - 27th Dec 23 as a Festive Family Treat. This Hotel / Gastropub offers a well-balanced mix of old world charm with modern refinements. Bedrooms sport tasteful light oak furnishings & neutral decor, comfy beds, heating that works, decent coffee and tea facilities, including a small flask of fresh milk each day. We originally planned to dine in on the 23rd & 25th only, but such was the quality of the food & service, we didn’t bother with anywhere else and worked our way through various high quality homemade options on a Menu that seemingly offers something for all tastes. We also tried the cooked breakfast on a couple of mornings and it was consistently good with quality produce, though for our personal taste we’d prefer a freshly squeezed or higher quality orange juice. This, along with what seemed to be an incomplete Beetroot & Goat’s Cheese starter on Christmas Day were the only minor negatives we noted. Beer / Real Ale lovers will not go far wrong here too, with a fine selection offered, including Thwaite’s Cask Amber Ale that quickly became such a personal favourite. However, it was the staff made our stay truly special. From the GM Alasdair through to front of house, restaurant, the two chaps working the bar, the amazing waitress with red hair that served our Christmas Lunch, the cleaning lady, in fact everyone we had the pleasure of meeting. They all made us feel so welcome, more like family than hotel guests!

First time in Heysham. Stayed at The Royal hotel. and eat Dinner and Breakfast. All done wonderful did Park run at Morecambe which was great. We did a car trip from Broughty Ferry. Dundee to Bristol. Great Halfway Stop.

We received a great welcome from Alistair. He showed us to our room and gave us fresh milk and oat milk for our teas/coffee. There was a lavazza coffee machine in the room. There were log fires in the bar and dining room.

Lovely sea side village and hotel is a old historical building and perfect walking distance from the 13th Century St Patricks Chapel and coastline.

Didn't like no resudents lounge area Had to sit in dining area but repeatedly pressured to order food before we were ready. Food poor quality for evening meal, especially for the price Loved the room and overall decor Staff very supportive when my wife became ill. The breakfast was superb

We stayed here as close to family who live in Heysham. We had Sunday lunch here and was very good. We had lunch inside and then moved outside to the fantastic outdoor terrace, complete with bar area. The room was perfect, very clean and all we needed. Fantastic breakfast in the morning. Everything brought to the table. Fantastic service from all staff. Very enjoyable stay.

Really pleased with the rooms . Comfortable beds. Great to have a coffee pod machine and also fans provided. We had well decorated, large rooms. The meals were very good - generous portions of high quality home cooked food. Breakfast was better than you would expect with freshly prepared fruit salad and excellent bacon. Fantastic location. If you are visiting Lancaster or Morecambe and like a quiet pretty location, Heysham is perfect. The hotel is just yards from the beach and amazing views of Morecambe bay and the lovely ancient church.

Very pleasantly surprised with this hotel booked at the last minute with somewhere to stay. The village of heysham is very quaint and quiet the type of place you could easily miss. The room was very nicely appointed although a little warm following a warm spell of weather, tea coffee water etc was provided. The beer garden was comfortable for a drink in the afternoon. Dinner was as expected. Breakfast I had the full English it was very very good. Completely satisfied. An excellent stay.

3 night break away, really lovely quiet pub with good food. The staff were fantastic so efficient and polite, a real credit to “thwaites” their training of staff is superb. Look forward to returning at a future date.

Stayed in room 7 for 10 nights Great Breakfast apart from first 2, fruit or yogurt was not available. Excellent choice for breakfast, with more than enough to eat portions but did including warm soft croissants. Bedroom was a good size although en-suite was narrow, it would have helped if the door had opened out instead of into the small space available. Shower control and shower spay where very good Unfortunately a sewage smell could be detected when the extractor fan was off, this was over come by running the shower to refill the the waste trap below after each flush of the WC. The trap was lost each time the WC was flushed possible caused by an un-vented system or the position of the shower waste connection. Evening meals where taken on 4 occasions and all where very good including the service.

A very popular place on a summer's afternoon, with an outside terrace area. Our room was comfortable, with White Company toiletries, and decent towels, but the accessory cushions and bed runner looked very worn, and badly needed replacing. Dinner was ok, but in an empty, soulless room - the bar or dining room would have had more atmosphere. The young lady looking after us though, and also young Simon, were excellent. Unfortunately, breakfast was a disaster, and we really shouldn't have paid for it. There was a new chef, his first day, and he didn't have a clue. We waited absolutely ages for porridge, and then it was inedible, and following this was a cooked breakfast which was all dried up, with a hard poached egg - most of which remained on the plate. The other couple in the bar had to leave theirs also, including their porridge. There were no croissants available or pastries, so we had to make do with a slice of toast. Not a good breakfast at all.

Enjoyable few days
Enjoyed our stay at the hotel, breakfast excellent with the staff also excellent. The evening meal was good not too pricy, service also good. Good value for money, near to a local bus stop. However times of buses has to be looked up on line as the bus company or local authority don't provide printed bus timetables.

Good but some issues need to be sorted.
Our 2 night stay was mid- week. Positives: The staff greeted us well and showed us to our beautifully decorated, clean room. The toiletries, tea/coffee making items were of a good quality. The hotel is in a quiet location not far from Morecambe. It’s a pleasant village. The first night, we reserved a table for dinner. It was good services and most items on the menu were available. In the morning, the breakfast choices were good with plentiful quantities. In the room, the wifi was good on the first night. Negatives: As the hotel was nice, I wish I had no negatives, but sadly, I do need to mention a few just to inform you. During the night, the room was too hot, we did have the window open but did this not help. On the second day, at breakfast, there was no fruit or croissants! Later, we went to book dinner for 7 and arrived in the early afternoon to book it. We were told there were no tables available at all. The advice was to go to the bar area where the menu was the same. It was first come, first served apparently. We arrived just before 7 pm and were told there was no room in the bar but we could go to the outside bar BUT food would not be served after 7pm. Meanwhile, in the restaurant, every table was empty! Understandably, we found this frustrating. We ended up going elsewhere to eat. In regards to the wifi, on the first night it was super but on the second, we could not log on in any area of the hotel. We were hoping for a great stay, sadly, we were disappointed.

We do email you in advance about booking a table as we normally are full most weekends and evenings am sorry you did not get to dine with us but even thought 1 section of the dining area was empty it would be booked out at 5,6,7 or 8pm as it is most evenings sorry again Alasdair

First visit to Heysham village. Very nice, old world feel, good standard bedroom and public area fittings. Food was good. Potted shrimps starter a real hit.

Entrance not obvious when arrived after dark, minor complaint duvet was very thick, very hot even though heating had already been turned off by previous occupants. Overall accommodation and food and drink excellent. Will definitely stay again.

Our stay at the Royal
We enjoyed our stay at the Royal which we visited so that we could attend a concert at the Platform in Morecambe.The room was clean and comfortable, the food was first class especially the breakfast and the staff were friendly and helpful.As soon as I find out that the concert is on again next year I will be booking to stay at the Royal.I would definitely recommend the hotel to friends.
