We stayed at the Wheatsheaf to be within 10 mins drive of the RSPB Leighton Moss reserve. The room was quirky, bare floorboards and steps up to the bed because it's quite high off the floor! The food was excellent and not expensive and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.. Very happy to recommend this place and we'll definitely be staying again.

Very nice spacious room with modern shower over bathroom. Very friendly and kind personnel, very engaged and helpful. Both dinner and breakfast delicious. All in all, one of our best stays on our roundtrip

Great hotel in a perfect location for our needs. All the staff were friendly and couldn't of done more to make our stay as enjoyable as it was. We ate there on both nights it was that good.

Lovely location
The breakfast was exceptional, the staff friendly and welcoming, the views stunning and the quirkiness of the building was charming. A lovely atmosphere and a lovely location. However, the bathroom light for a bathroom without windows (some did, some didn't) wasn't working, so a temporary one was set up. We didn't feel it was a safe option given it was in a water based room but had little choice and no offer to reduce our room rate despite the bathroom not really safe to use, nor the shower as it was too dark in that part of the room. They tried their best given it was a weekend and no electrician could come out, but very little was done to recompense our stay which is a shame.

Historic Inn with very good food and drink
400 year old inn in a little village. Recently modernised bedrooms. Welcoming staff although they didn't tell us the TV was not working other than via internet conection until I asked why there was no reception. This lack of reception was due to building works. Very good dinner and breakfast and two cask ales available. Large private car park across the street where there is also an outside seating area. The church clock chimes every 15 mins day and night so if you're a light sleeper this could be a problem but ear plugs a provided. An historic corn mill is close by. Convenient for catching the Isle of Man Ferry if travelling by car. We would stay there again.

Highly recommended
Beautiful location with friendly staff. Lots of gluten free options for breakfast and on menu. Room was lovely with picturesque views. Would recommend and stay again!

Welcoming staff great location
We arrived early and the young lady behind the bar said we could check in straight away which after a long drive was fabulous. We had lunch which was superb and lovely staff serving us, unfortunately we had some bad news and couldn’t stay the night and had to return home but will return one day.

Amazing
Lovely quaint hotel in a small village, ideal Location. Breakfast was amazing, with a wide variety to suit all dietary requirements. Evening meals and snacks were also to a high standard and drinks reasonably priced. All in all a fantastic find!

This is a lovely period building dating back to the 17th century. The pub itself is warm and welcoming to all, allowing muddy walking boots and even dogs as well as people! The staff are welcoming and friendly, offering good professional service. The food is delicious, most of it being home made from local produce. The bar is well stocked with drinks to please all tastes. The newly refurbished rooms are comfortable and well appointed, with lovely modern shower facilities. I look forward to returning for another visit to the Wheatsheaf in the future.

Quality accommodation at a reasonable price.
Excellent location. Walks directly from the hotel. Good food with an excellent breakfast. Excellent rooms with a large bathroom that is fitted out with quality fittings. All in all excellent value for money in quality surrounds. A mention to the friendly staff.

The wheatsheaf is a fabulous old building. Our room was full of character, the breakfast was fantastic - such a choice - & all the staff were very friendly & helpful.

This is a great looking building,Our room was quite small but beautiful and full of character.Most of the staff are very friendly and helpful.The only slight downside is a limited menu but the food was tasty.

We do keep the menu small as everything is cooked in house from fresh, we do not want to buy ready made food in. The menu does change frequently with the seasons so next time you visit the choices will be different.

Worth a visit. You won’t be disappointed.
Stayed before on a number of occasions. Since our last stay a few years ago the Wheatsheaf has been sympathetically refurbished to a very high standard. Excellent.

Lovely, friendly welcoming staff. Very good food of good quality, well presented and reasonable cost. Breakfast was excellent. Hotel is obviously in the process of upgrading with corridors a work in progress. Bar and dining room were clean, tidy, comfortable and welcoming. Lovely bedroom with many quirky period features, excellent on suite facilities, immaculate cleanliness. Look forward to visiting again. Highly recommend a visit.

The hotel is a beautiful old building and even though the room was a bit dated it just added to its character.We could not fault the staff who were very pleasant and couldn't do enough for us.The food was excellent especially the breakfast.We will certainly be coming back.

Nice old hotel in a lovely village.
Whilst the hotel is old it has been made to look mimialistic, could do with some nice curtains and homely features put into the place
