"We had a lovely stay at the Old Schoolhouse. Our room and bathroom were spacious. Our hosts had homemade treats for us each day (an oatmeal raisin cookie our first day and a piece of spice cake the next). Our breakfast was at a large table with the other guests. We loved talking to them, several of whom were walking the length of Hadrian's wall. The breakfast itself was delicious and generous. We would absolutely stay here again."

The hotel was full of character with lots of quirky rooms in the public areas, much more interesting than a modern featureless block. Hexham itself is also a very interesting city, with lots of small shops set in pleasant streets of quality architecture, crowned by the magnificent abbey church."
