The best thing is the rooftop communal area. The bunks were pretty good, had curtains. Kitchen is well organised. Bunkroom is messy with bags all over the floor i stead of in lockers or on the bunks. Overall the best of the 4 hostels I have stayed at so far in Melbourne.

Staff were generally grumpy and probably over worked. Back alley way has trucks crushing cans and bottles all night. All the doors close with a bang. So it is an orchestra of sounds when sleeping. Will effect some people strongly. I’d try another place in future. Also, kitchen is in the basement. No windows.

Convenient location to get around Melbourne CBD, appreciated to have fast and unlimited free Wi-Fi, power ports on the side of the bed, and complimentary brekkie (despite cereals, toasts, juice and milk as expected)

Decent bed, good place to stay. Was too warm in room and staff were quick to help and reduce heating. Had some fun talking with people from other counties staying at the location.

I LOVED this facility. The set up was amazing, I liked how there was security to access the rooms, and how the bathrooms/showers were literally miniature bathrooms you would find in a house.

It is a bit dated for a large city hostel. Staff were helpful and friendly. The kitchen was rarely not a mess and untidy but this was due to the people staying in the hoste rather then the hostel itself (ie. not Washington up after themselves, leaving food in the sink). Kitchen facilities are quite small given how large the hostel is. Some of the bathrooms need updating. Rooms have privacy curtains which was a nice touch.

They placed me in the wrong room and required me to move twice. The room in 217 is in horrible condition - it DOES NOT COME WITH A CURTAIN as they have advertised in their pictures, smells and dirty, no free locker. The whole corridor also has trash/leftover food and really smelly shoes. I don't feel comfortable staying in a mixed dorm without the curtain. Even then, there was a fellow female backpacker who burst into tears at night because the room was too terrible. I totally understand her feelings because no sane human could live in that room for more than a night. Terrible check-in service and reception bureaucracy. Lack of manpower in the reception. I have to wait really long to check in and caused me to miss my event in the city. Even then there is no towel provided because they ran out of towels. When I was checking out early in the morning. They require me to get the info card that hangs on my bed to give me back my deposit. I told them I am running late for my flight and gave them the details (my name, room, etc. that is on that card). They insisted on the card and I have to run back to the room. Needless to say, they would prioritise their stupid bureaucracy over guest's needs and comfort - I was late for my flight, and have to interrupt my sleeping roommates again for getting into the room to retrieve the stupid piece of hand-written card. Overall. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOSTEL. It does not deserve the above-average rating as it has now.

A top hostel
One of the better hostels I have stayed in! The mattress in my six bed dorm was super comfy and I really liked the curtain that you could pull across for a bit of privacy. Large lockers as well. The free breakfast was definitely the best from a hostel, pancakes, cereal, toast amd even juice! The bathrooms were mostly clean, in good condition. There was a rooftop which was nice to sit up on. Lots of long-term travellers so they had there stuff spread out alot in the room. Free BBQ and other activities another bonus! Fantastic location in the CBD and free tram zone. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay.

Decent hostel, they were renovating the kitchen when I was there so a little bit messy and crowded. Free breakfast was nice, WiFi pretty terrible. Nice free BBQ one night a week too. If you only need one night somewhere I can recommend, great value.
