This is case of you get what you pay for. In this case, not much, but it was clean, comfortable enough, quiet, well located to Medicine Hat's quaint historic downtown.
The downside was there were no glasses and no coffeemaker in my room (advertised as an amenity). Hard to brush teeth or have a glass of water with no cups. There was no top sheet on the bed (the one that goes under the duvet). Only a duvet, which I thought was very strange.
The minute I got into my room I could see the bed was a double (I have a queen at home, so I know), which I brought to the front desk's attention (in person since there are no room phones), and it was insisted to me that it was a queen room. I gave up on that argument.
The "continental breakfast" included cereal dispensers, single-serve yogurts, bread for toast, and a waffle iron and batter. There were no coffee cups in the cupboard when I went down, so I made my coffee in a glass tumbler.
Upon checkout when asked about my stay I told reception/management that while the room was comfortable, there were no cups nor a coffeemaker in my room, and no coffee cups in the breakfast area.
The fellow just shrugged it off and said "we don't have enough cups." Well, there are several thrift shops nearby to get more. He offered to get me a paper coffee cup, but the coffee I'd had was so bad I declined.
It doesn't take much to make sure you have proper setup in a hotel room. When you advertise a coffeemaker, I expect one.
