"I am a solo female traveller. Zanzibar House is an excellent property in so many ways. The staff are friendly and helpful. The grounds are a delight to be in, with lots of comfortable places to sit and read or contemplate the beauty of the area.
I did not use the pool and I am sure it would be lovely.
At night time I had an evening meal which was tasty and they accommodated my dietary requirements very well. I am gluten intolerant. I recommend this hotel if you like quiet and beauty filled...

"MINUS 10 STARS!!
Went from bad to worse from the time we arrived.
From having a mess in 1 room since they were building a bed, no toiletries at all as mentioned,
Water was not working properly; lights went off in 1 room and the ac and water not working in another.
Then went in total darkness with no back-up generator available and we were told it happens all the time.
Staff was hard to find even with a 'reception' area.
All around a horrible experience. Plus, we forgot to take 1 item...

"Just to be clear: there is no pool. And the hotel is 5 minutes walking distance from the beach. But the service is 5 stars. And they clean every day, and change the bed and towels every 2 days"

"O pessoal do hotel é maravilhoso, me ajudou em vários temos que eram fora do escopo da minha estadia no hotel. Conseguiram um transporte para o hotel, me conseguiram outro hotel e as meninas que trabalham lá são ótimas. Os quartos são lindos, com decoração africana e muito limpos. O restaurante tem muitas opções de comida, com preços excelentes. A piscina estava muito limpa e boa. Uns 7 minutos andando da praia. "

"All the things were amazing. Only two things could be better. The entertainment team could be more proactive inviting us for the activities (we are on vacation, so we don’t look at a schedule) and going walk to the beach was almost always a bad experience, there were a lot of guys trying to sell things, following us and disturbing. I know that this is not a matter of the hotel, but it decreases our experience in Zanzibar."
"Sunset views were amazing. My room was great and housekeeping staff were awesome, help me decorate for my hubby bday, got us champagne and a cake. The gym was ok, some machines did not work or broken. The massage therapist was not so good, we booked couples massage and it wasnt worth it. I loved everything about the resort except entertainment nights were boring, dj could play better music (excluding Riu party) and the buffet was my nightmare. Same food offered every night, every station, the chef left red meat medium well, still saw blood. My husband and I had to pretend we had reservations to go try one of the restaurants on property. The best restaurant was the asain fusion restaurant next to the buffet. All the other restaurant food was blahhh. I spent 8 days here. I know it was off season but why food options not rotated daily. The drinks were mediocre, the juice was not even fresh it was powered mixed in water to taste like pineapple juice. Just the food was why I put 3 stars. The pools were great, staff were great, (Jambo, Jambo) beach walks were great, the buffet food could use upgrade on selections and taste. I came to Africa to eat African cuisine and flavors, the buffet offered American and other country food. Give me Zanzibar authentic food. I would refer others to this resort for everything else except food & spa."
Hotel Riu Palace Swahili - All Inclusive - Adults Only
10/10 Excellent
"The hotel and room are spotless, and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. They offer a wide variety of breakfast options, and the spa is simply amazing. We also thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant, which serves delicious food and has an impressive selection of wine labels."
"Room was spotless, staff were great especially Rosie and the manager Megan. Location is great, it is set in a quieter part of the island which we loved, the pool is right near the beach so you can enjoy both at once, there is parking if you rent a car and the room are private and really well designed."
"Fantastic stay in this beautiful boutique hotel in Matemwe!
Plus: Amazing ocean view room, great food, amazing staff (everyone is so kind and so nice!), fantastic diving team (be aware that Zanzibar doesn't have big sealife, but the small ones and the sites are beautiful), very relaxing stay, great service overall
Cons: the only cons (but I knew that already and this was part of the reasons why I chose this hotel!) is that the hotel is very isolated so if you are looking for a lot to do, this is not the place for you!

"The staff were very friendly and very helpful. They made my 7 night stay very pleasant and comfortable. This is truly a boutique hotel that pays attention to every detail and every guest. At first the entrance is misleading but as soon as you step inside it is a different story! You get a welcome coconut drink that is super delicious. The pool area and the restaurant is very pretty and is kept very clean. The food is super delicious and they have the best drinks and also mocktails. I had a very good deep tissue massage at the spa also. My room was very spacious with a great view. The bed was super comfortable and they cleaned every day. They even surprised me with a birthday song and a personal cake - getting my birthday from my ID! Now that had never happened in any hotel before! Very special place and I will definitely stay there again. "
