The biggest con is this hotel is very confusing and difficult to navigate. I didn’t think I’d need help getting my luggage to my room but I should have accepted when they offered! Everything is on different levels, so even after taking the lift I had to go up and down several short sets of stairs. The signage is very poor (not a lot of it and sometimes incomplete, so there were signs pointing to rooms near mine but not to the section mine was in). I got lost the first time I left my room! But the room itself was nice enough. The bathroom was laid out oddly (lots of space but hard to find places to hang towels), but it had a nice shower/tub. The light in the bathroom was motion activated (no switch). It kept coming on until I figured out it would turn off if I closed the door. But it came on again the second I opened the door, so it was impossible to use the bathroom at night without being blinded. I had a nice view of Blackheath, but that also meant there was a lot of traffic that kept me awake, and there wasn’t much difference in noise when the window was open or closed. The window opened a decent amount and there was a fan installed in the room (mounted on the wall). That was great since it was warm. Just don’t do what I did and pull back the sheer inner curtain all night, because I woke up the first morning with a pigeon in my room…

The bathtub is very difficult to get in and out. The floor of the tub and floor in the bathroom is slippery and there is nothing to hold on to. I am hoping when I come back there will be a tub or shower option for elderly that will be safer. Your breakfast buffet is excellent and the staff are very nice. I will be back in a few months!

Excellent hotel overlooking the Blackheath green space outside of Canary Wharf. The breakfast is fantastic, and the staff in the breakfast and bar are unusually friendly for London, lol. Great place. A rare treat to have a small village like atmosphere. Parking is an issue and very expensive if you do happen to be driving. The hotel has free spaces for guests, but it is potluck getting one. Blackheath station is on the Southeastern so good access to London Bridge etc.

The Clarendon is very handy for the centre of Blackheath and the staff are always helpful and approachable. Despite two major Saturday evening functions our first floor room was remarkably quiet. Bathroom facilities are on the small side and the water pressure was low when we were there making showering difficult. The hotel was obviously full last weekend and Sunday breakfast slow, with certain items not available. Minor drawbacks compared with the hotel's convenience for our purpose.

We have stayed here before. A very nice, clean hotel with friendly, helpful staff. A very nice self-service breakfast, too. There are plenty of excellent restaurants within walking distance and the hotel has its own very good restaurant as well. The Clarendon is also handy for the railway station, with a quick service into London.

Staff make this place great. The breakfast staff have a chat and a laugh and put onbthe absolute feast of English brekkies. Room was just what I needed and they moved me tob1st floor since i had a bit of luggage. Easy walk from Blackheath station. Lots of great little independent restaurants in town. The Everest is one of the best meals ive had in a while.

Lovely hotel, wonderful staff
This was a return visit to the Clarendon, some years after we threw our engagement party in the Chart Bar. We only stayed for one night this time, but they made a fuss of us with an upgrade to a beautiful room with a view across Blackheath, fizz and chocolates to help us celebrate our return, and every single member of staff we spoke to was just lovely and so helpful (as they were last time too). They really made us feel special - like real guests instead of just customers. We hope it won’t be another seven years before we can make it back to the Clarendon again!

Poor communication on hotel facilities.
Booked for a special occasion, well in advance, including dinner in the restaurant. However due to a function in the restaurant we had to eat in the bar. No one mentioned this event when we booked or when we arrived, so it was too late to book elsewhere on a busy Saturday night. A noisy night ensued. Poor communication spoilt a once in a lifetime event.

Gem on the heath
The hotel was spotlessly clean the staff were lovely I would have given it a five star but for the noise from the main road outside the Hotel our room was at the very top facing on to the heat it was a nice view if the windows had been double glazed to reduce the noise from outside it would make a big difference if you're booking the hotel let them know how mobile you are as there are a lot of stairs the breakfast was brilliant we we had food one afternoon and couldn't fault it

Have stayed here before, it’s a great hotel in the heart of Blackheath. Good facilities, friendly staff, great breakfast and decent sized rooms. Would stay here again. Plenty of restaurants and bars nearby as well as in the hotel.

Good Hotel but could be great
The hotel is actually in reasonable condition and comfortable. The hotel doesnt seem to have double glazing and the has two effects, is cold in the winter nights and also very noisy. The ill fitting windows (original) made it especially noisy due to the wind whislting through the gaps. The bathroom was nicely decorated but let down with the screen seal at the bottom being so green i was surprised is wasnt sprouting algea. The rest of the room was perfect, just let it down a bit to be honest. Pet friendly to a point, dog was allowed in the lounge but all food and drink had to be ordered to be brought down to the lounge food quality was good though.

A little gem! 5 stars from us.
Excellent hotel. Have stayed in high-end places, so this was last minute booking for New Year's Eve, as I needed to be close to a family event in London. So, not the most modern place, but hey, has a charm of its own. Great location. Clean and compared to city prices, a bargain. Positives: Free parking in London. Friendly staff. Clean, warm room. Good bathroom. Comfortable bed and a great night's sleep. FANTASTIC breakfast, with great quality options. The restaurant staff are super friendly, efficient and happy to help out. 5 minute drive to Greenwich and to O2 arena in 15 minutes. Negatives. Nothing that affected our stay, however, the windows are old and dated and could do with an upgrade, bit of a draft from them, but the heating in the room is great, so hardly noticed it, however, great for a 200-year-old building. Our family room had 4 single beds and plenty of room. Great hot shower. We will be back.
