A good option for stays in Lhasa. Located in new Chinese area, but adjacent to Potala Palace. Hotel is in good condition. But prices are very high (think Hong Kong levels) but with service standards far below. Very few staff in hotel, and very few can speak even basic English. Horizon Club very poor value. One staff person only. Cannot speak any English. Very basic food offering. St Regis might be a better option? Certainly closer to Tibetan quarter.

An oasis at high altitude
We stayed at the Shangri La Lhasa on our recent trip to Tibet. It is located a bit out of the way in terms of sightseeing and restaurants, but the oxygen bar was so appreciated on our second night. The food in the hotel is a bit expensive, but the staff allowed us to create our own menu for snacks on the night of our arrival, and then provided us with a bit of a discount for our breakfast buffets. Very accommodating. The rooms are well appointed and very comfortable.

Close to attractions of Lhasa. Hotel is very comfortable and my only complaint is that I asked for a non smoking room, but my room had an ash tray and matches. That’s not a non smoking room!

Best hotel is Lhasa
Excellent hotel! I got sick because of te height and luckily they had a doctor available 24/7. The facilities and staff service are top notch, cannot complain. You know what you're getting with a Shangri-La and this one won't let you down trust me.

The oxygen lounge is fantastic
It is comfortable 5 star hotel at a decent location but the most important distinguishing feature is the Oxygen Lounge. It is a fantastic amenity and along with the cheerful and experienced doctor, it is a lifesaver for clueless low altitude people who fly in and over exert themselves.

Great hotel in this city
I stayed there for 4 nights. A Great hotel in the city with good facilities, stuffs, foods and services. The hotel is very quite during the night. With Good in-room dining with affordable price. Good location with great SPA and an oxygen bar for free. Five star hotel. Will come again. That's all I got. Come and try try try try try try try.

Surprisinglg superior to the St Regis in terms of service staff and efficiency. The 24h oxygen room was a bonus. Room had a great view but not soundproof from the bar/restaurant so you could hear the band at night. Decor is a bit dated and buffet breakfast could use a refresh in offerings. Still it's comfy stay in Lhasa even if it's not the same class as the rest of the hotel chain's properties in bigger Asian cities

Much better than 3.5 stars
I chose the Shangri-la for the chain's reputation & my previous experiences with them, and I got most of what I was expecting. Comfortable & spacious room with a view of Potala Palace, nice amenities, nice service, very good fitness facilities and a great massage at the spa. English is not understood nor spoken by all the staff, so it can take time to get what you want, but it's not a major problem. Fitness facilities & spa were great and the "oxygen room", which is specifically designed to help adjust to the altitude of Lhasa, was a nice extra. Major sights are within walking distance. Gift shop has nice items but exponentially more expensive than similar things in the market. Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely return to the Shangri-la whenever possible.

Lovely hotel with many amenities
We spent five nights here. It is not close enough to walk to the old town but is a short cab ride away. The facilities are nice but the staff is seriously undertrained. Every request is a challenge, from making a phone call to ordering room service. The oxygen lounge was a welcome respite.

Not a 5 star Hotel
In all fairness, I left a note at checkout requesting that the Hotel management contact me. I have waited more than a week. The Hotel has all the potential of really being a 5 star stay but there are two big areas lacking. First is the food service. When you obviously have left over food on the buffet, it takes away form the higher quality food. The restaurant staff need a short course in English as several did not know the word Menu. Second, the massage I had at the spa was so poor I would barely rank it above a visit to an American Massage School. It was nothing like the description and it was obvious the girl was too tired, and too hungry to do a good job. An expensive disappointment. On the Plus side, the front desk and bellhop/concierge staff were great. The oxygen lounge was very pleasant and really helped with adjusting to the high altitude.

The worst ShangriLa we have stayed in
This was by far the worst experience we have ever had at a ShangriLa hotel. The leisure complex is dirty, many of the facilities are not working, and the staff seem to have no interest in addressing any of these issues. Service in the restaurant is slow, often sullen, and the food barely average. Whilst some individual staff are clearly trying to do their best, there is a clear lack of management which urgently needs rectified at this hotel.

Best hotel in Lhasa
The Shangri-La Lhasa is clearly an outstanding property, with well-trained and enthusiastic staff. It is outrageous that the hotel doesn't have any no-smoking sections in any of its restaurants --- but then again, neither do any of its competitors. Once they fix this glaring oversight, and once they install a printer somewhere in the hotel (that guests can use to print their boarding passes), the hotel will be truly a first-class hotel fully deserving of the Shangri-La brand name.

Newly opened but doesn't look like that
We stayed 4 days and have made 2 bookings: the first 2 days directly at Shangri-La, the following 2 days via hotels.com. This was of course a bit confusing, but when checking-in the lady at the hotel desk managed it. Nevertheless coming back at the 3rd day (2nd booking) in the afternoon we could not enter our room. We had to explain again. Next day was the same. You should drink a lot in the high altitude of Lhasa, but there were only 2 bottles of water in the room, so you always had to ask for more. The hotel was opened a few month ago but doesn't look like, e.g. tiles at the terrace were broken, have a lot of staints. The staff was friendly but a little bit "shy". Breakfast was very good.

大堂接待員十分友善,還替我們upgrade了房間,還幫了我們叫車。2樓的咖啡廳有小吃和沙拉,休閑很不錯,還有24小時的氧氣室,晚上有高山反應睡不著也不怕。

在拉萨算很好的酒店
酒店整体符合五星级标准,自助餐在西藏这地方已经算不错了,酒店客人还有折扣。去的时候酒店门口封路,到达的时候只好自己拖着大箱子走进去,好在离开的时候有车送到大路路口,可以步行到罗布林卡和布达拉宫,有的房间可以看到布达拉宫

Only location was good. Hotel was dreadful
From the moment we checked in there were mistakes. We booked 2 rooms several month in advance. First they could not find more than 1 room. Despite request we were given 2 rooms on separate floors. Rooms were ok and large but old. Aircon could only heat and each day we had 26 degrees in the room to sleep in. When we told them room was too hot they told us just to open windows. Only you could not. Only housekeeping could open the windows. After asking for aircon 5 times we gave up! Staff spoke poor English and each day in restaurant we had to ask for the same thing 5 times before it arrived. I would not stay at this hotel. I would choose st regis nex time!!

Hotel gut zum rasten nach vielen kilometern
perfektes Service in der reception. essen so lala ....etwas ausserhalb Stadtzentrum trotzdem gut zum relaxen zimmersauberkeit etwas gering - alles in allem u empfehlen
