Glorious Kungalv is one of the most popular cities in the Bohuslan region, located in eastern Sweden.

Kungalv is a lively city with plenty to offer. Tourists flock here to experience the beauty of nature and the historic surroundings. If you're planning a weekend in Kungalv you can look forward to relaxing in a charming Swedish city, comfortably close to both Gothenburg and the sea.

One of the main attractions in Kungalv is the historic Bohus Fortress, but this impressive structure is just one of the many fascinating buildings in the area where you can learn more about the city's interesting past. Kungalv is one of the oldest cities in Sweden, and you can find plenty of old features along its streets.

Stroll around the city's cosy streets surrounded by colourful gardens and traditional wooden houses to experience the typical, Swedish small town charm. Walk along the river Nordre Alv to enjoy a peaceful atmosphere with gorgeous views of the water. If you happen to get a whiff of sweet chocolate vanilla in the air, that's probably the biscuit factory and shop Brackboden calling for you to make a pit-stop and rest your feet. Grab a seat and relax with a cup of coffee with your fresh biscuits at the cute, local favourite Fru Snoosas Kafé.

Anyone planning a holiday in Kungalv simply can't miss joining a guided tour at Bohus Fortress. This former stronghold is a unique structure and was built more than 700 years ago. Now the medieval fortress has become a popular tourist attraction, with lots of year-round events and activities. In the summer, a visit to the fortress is a wonderful way of adding a bit of historic magic to your trip to Kungalv.

Travellers looking to combine a cosy city visit with great outdoors experiences will find Kungalv to be just the right place. In the surrounding area you will find no less than 20 nature reserves, with plenty of exciting nature adventures. Put on your hiking shoes and go for a walk through the lush green areas just outside Kungalv to experience the real tranquillity of the Swedish forests. If you're looking for a pretty area for a picnic, you can head towards the lush greenery in the valleys of the rivers Gota Alv and Nordre Alv.

Kungalv may be a quiet city, but you're never far from the big city nightlife. If you're travelling by car, it will only take you 20 minutes to get to downtown Gothenburg, where you'll find lots of museums, restaurants and pubs. Would you prefer a swim in the sea, you can get to the picturesque seaside town of Marstrand in just half an hour's drive from Kungalv.

8/10 Very good! (291 reviews)
Great for us, but not if you were too picky!
"Perfect for what we wanted as a couple with a 3 year old. We didn’t have high expectations, so all good. The cabin was a bit tired and worn and was boiling hot. Shower good and ice box was large. Play park not brilliant and a bit noisy at night!!"
