  • On 14 April 2016, a massive earthquake (magnitude 6.2) struck Kumamoto prefecture and damaged numerous structures of the Kumamoto Castle complex including the main castle. Routes and pathways were still open and available for visitors. During our visit, efforts for reconstruction of Kumamoto castle were under way as can be seen in the background of this photo. The Uto Yagura turret (foreground), on the other hand, survived the quake and remains intact.

Worth the money

Enjoyed my stay. The hotel and the room was very clean, neat, and convenient to go anywhere. Extra free amenities like tea/coffee, personal hygiene items, pajamas and phone chargers etc..were wonderful!

Hotel location is near to shopping area and many eateries within walking distance. It's near to another Daiwa Roynet hotel which is near the big junction. The hotel parking is a bit difficult to find. Room is clean and bed is comfy. Overall a good stay.

The place was perfect! The space was big, the bed was big and the toilet was big! We felt really comfortable and made the mistake of staying inside for far too long when Kumamoto has so much to offer. It was also walkable to the castle and the shopping arcade. There was even a massage chair in our room! Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and will stay in other Daiwa hotels in our future stay.

Pleasant stay

Hotel is near the castle ruins, shopping dori and many food choices within walking distance. However, hotel's location is not near to the main Kumamoto Station so the only transport to rely on is via tram, not recommended for those who have big luggage as tram can be packed and difficult to move up and down with luggage. Perhaps it will be good for hotel to provide free pick up and drop off services to and from Kumamoto station. Buffet breakfast is decent and staff are all friendly.
