We stayed at the Henderson Castle 🏰😁! It was beautiful and relaxing! They carried all of our bags! My fiance is disabled. My only complaint was the hot tub on the roof was out of order. The food was delicious, the service was great and the stay was enchanting!
I recently stayed at the historic Upjohn House Bed and Breakfast in the heart of downtown Kalamazoo, and it was a truly memorable experience. This beautifully restored mansion is decorated with charming period details that give it an elegant, old-world atmosphere while still offering modern comforts.
I stayed for two nights and loved how easy it was to walk to all the shops, restaurants, and attractions downtown. I also attended a concert at Miller Auditorium, which was conveniently located less than two miles away.
The house itself was quiet and relaxing especially since I had it all to myself during my Sunday-Monday stay. I enjoyed a fantastic room with a very firm and comfortable bed that made for a great night’s sleep. The room also had a smart TV with a Roku device, which made it easy to log into my favorite streaming apps like Netflix and YouTube.
One highlight of the stay was the clean and inviting hot tub, perfect for unwinding at the end of the day. The whole place felt homey, peaceful, and well cared for. Highly recommend if you're looking for a unique and comfortable stay in Kalamazoo!
Pool not on premises like advertised and breakfast not on site; so how can they call it BnB?

No service nobody around ,,soiled sheets, and pillowcases. We had to request sheets. My wife had to make the her own bed, put the pillow sheets on nothing was accessible for housekeeping because there was nobody around. No way to turn down the AC. It ran all night very very cold. Definitely not worth $215 a night and that was discounted wouldn’t pay more than 60 or 70 bucks to stay there again.
This is an attractive historical building but hard to stay in. Check-in and breakfast are 1 mile away; this was not disclosed in the reservation process. There are no staff members on the premises, although when called in, Drakkar was friendly and helpful. Lighting in my room was very inconvenient -- no bathroom illumination, bedroom chandelier did not work, but florescent tube over bookcase could not be turned off. My room was on the ground floor with only lace curtains between me and the front yard.
Inexplicably we were charged $200+ dollars more than what Expedia quoted us. We weren’t given the room we booked. The toilet & sink were in the shower (“European style” was reason given - in Europe that type of bathroom is in hostels). We were given a different room for 2nd night, which had a functional bathroom - but was not room we booked & requested/confirmed both verbally & in writing. Yet still charged $200+ more…Sadly, not recommended.
When checking in, the hotel couldn't initially find my reservation and said it was because I booked through Expedia. Once that was sorted, I had to wait for a groundskeeper to let me into the property and he let me choose my room, saying they didn't know we were coming so none were prepared for us. The room was beautiful, but the trash was full, the coffee machine had an old used k cup in it, and the bed was broken. In the morning, the groundskeeper stopped me on my way out to inform me that I hadn't paid. He showed me a text message from the property manager that made no sense and included inappropriate language. I pulled up my bank app and showed him the charge to my account, then listened to him argue on the phone to this woman as she continued to insist I hadn't paid. For the record, he seemed very kind but stuck in an impossible situation. Very disappointed in the lack of professionalism from management on this one. Will not return or recommend, which is a shame because I visit Kalamazoo often.
This was NOT a bed and breakfast situation- it was more like a boarding house sleeping room thing. There were two shared bathrooms with towels on the floor, dirty tubs, toilet paper rolls on the floor, undies hanging to dry on a sinks. We had to drive to Henderson Castle, a property nearby. Luckily we had driven instead of taken a train. When we got back, though we were early, it still took us almost an hour to get into the building- after several phone calls, they finally just gave us the door code or it may have been longer.
The home was pretty but run down and dirty. Eventually, after another 20 minutes of trying to get into our room they told us to just go to another room that was open. Like other rooms we’d seen there was a toilet right in the room without anything but a thin dividing screen.
Our room had no heat control, a nice but filthy bathtub, dirty towels, and dirty blanket. There was no trash can in the frame for one. The tp had poo on it. Around 10:30 we finally got hold of housekeeping-a woman reeking of weed brought us a space heater and offered to clean up but I just did it myself. Row someone needing a boarding room for a night for a concert it would be fine if you don’t mind dirty. But it was a very unpleasant couple experience, poorly run and misleading. It was a lovely old home though and the mattress toppers were comfortable. Very convenient location minus the check in/amenities a mile away.
So nice very impressed we will return 👏 hopefully next stay is longer and we can enjoy more of it.

State attenti!
