"The hotel is a modest place to stay. However, hotel manager Carol is an excellent host. She is professional, knowledgeable, and makes your stay very comfortable. Personnel are friendly, the small family restaurant offers nice meals. Location is great."
"No.5 Valley Lodge was the absolute highlight of our honeymoon. My wife and I stayed here during our visit to Zhangjiajie, and nothing else came close. You wake up surrounded by mountains and rice fields — literally inside the national park. Breathtaking and unforgettable.
This isn’t a luxury hotel — it’s a mountain lodge, and that’s its charm. Rustic, big, built entirely out of wood. The staff are the heart of this place. Shoutout to Frankie for making us feel at home, and to the Tea Master for her warmth, incredible tea ceremonies, and gifts we’ll treasure forever. Luggage help was always there without asking — service here puts many luxury hotels to shame.
For our honeymoon, the staff decorated our entire room with balloons and messages — one of the most thoughtful gestures of our trip. Breakfast was fantastic, served right next to our room. The hotel also provides free transport to the Avatar Mountains, which are incredibly close.
Things to know: the wooden construction means sound travels between rooms. The lodge is remote — the city, Grand Canyon, and other attractions require a ride, and hotel transport is pricey (we used DiDi). But we came wanting a deep nature experience, and that’s exactly what we got.
Not for everyone, but for us it was perfection. The best stay of our honeymoon, no question."
"Our stay was fabulous. We got a room upgrade it was amazing. Staff were super helpful and very nice. Breakfast was also good. Special thanks to Xiaoxiao who help us with tickets and to make our stay smooth. Also thanks to Hailey who also helps us at the reception. Everyone was so kind and nice. I definitely recommend this hotel"
"The food was excellent, all locally-sourced organic food. Almost all Chinese food. There was coffee available at breakfast. The room was nice and big, with an excellent shower. The hotel provided free transport to/from the National Park entrance, and arranged for transport to/from airport and train station."
"The rooms were spotless and the staff wonderful, unfortunately the property is quite run down ie the pool area and property facade. The staff are amazing and so hospitable, going out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. The comp breakfast was very welcomed as no places to eat in the area, we also ate dinner one night and it was lovely, simple and tasty. It’s a quick walk to the middle gate entry too national park. Taxis to/from property are about 50yuan to Wulingyuan and 100yuan to Zhangjiajie city, (I’m sure much cheaper with Didi) and great for an evening or afternoon walk around and dinner. I want to reiterate the staff are wonderful and the rooms spotless, the photos are maybe not what you should expect so prepare your expectations for a good clean Staycay better than basic but not luxe as the pics may suggest. Two words, serene and lovely :)"
"David and the staff were amazing, inviting us even to share in their New Year’s dinner. The location is gorgeous although a bit remote, so plan to organize your activities in advance if you can since getting a ride from DiDi can be a challenge. "
"Host was fantastic and incredibly helpful. Supported with all our national park tickets and transfers and was just great!
Food was available which was overall OK.
Room nice.
Location excellent for national park entrance.
Nice touches. Very kind."
"The room was clean and the location was great particularly for food and getting to the east gate. Hotel seems dated and is loaded with tour busses. So much so, it was difficult to get from one building to another. Go early for breakfast because it seemed picked over the morning we went a little later. Was a little loud earlier in the evening but it did quiet down and we had a good sleep. "
