Banana leaf hotel was a great place to stay during our time in Ho Chi Minh. The place is basic but has everything you need and the owners are lovely and super helpful. The location is perfect for exploring the city and we thouroughly enjoyed our stay.

Great location, great value!
My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and felt like it was a great value for a private room in the backpacker area of HCMC. It's located walking distance to all restaurants and bars. Room was no 5* but for a guesthouse it was clean & cozy. I would definitely recommend.

OK for the price
I'm a local resident - needed a place to stay short term while my apartment is being remodeled. For the price, this is what I would expect from a family run hotel. It's on a busy street (but tucked away in an alley) so it's fairly noisy at all hours. Basic, but clean, room. By the way, the Greek restaurant close by (Zeus) is a great place for inexpensive and good eats. The feta cheese and yogurt are indeed homemade.

Great place to stay! The owner had dinner for us when we arrived. It was delicious. He also helped us to book tours we wanted to do. Good location.

Family makes all the difference
Extremely endearing family-run enterprise. The family's accommodations double as the front desk, so you're interacting with them whenever you're entering or exiting the building, and that's a good thing. The room is a little sparse, but that was fine; we just needed a place to sleep. The air conditioner was more than adequate, and we were resupplied with fresh toiletries and clean towels every day. I wish it were a little easy to find, but I'm sure the same could be said for nearly every hostel in Saigon. The address is 160/2, which means it's down a little alley off of the main street. It was a little tricky to find at night, but as long as you know the addresses are numerically ordered you can understand where to find it, it was just a bit of a challenge at night in the rain. There must be hundreds of hostels in District 1, the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, each providing what I'm sure is rather comparable service, but the family made all the difference to us, and any time we're back in Saigon on a budget, we'll be staying there.
