The room was very clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay .
The new staff were very welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us .
We look forward to returning in the future
This wee pub / hotel was great clean tidy good food, staff was helpful and friendly, rooms was good too, would I stay again yes, great value for money,
Check in was easy. Room lovely great new bathroom nice tiles bed comfortable. Breakfast was extra at £6.75 but worth it. New landlords have done a great job updating the George, looking forward to our next visit. Great centre location exploring Kinder Scout and Twenty Trees.
The ladies who are running the hotel/pub so lovely - nothing is too much trouble - only been there 5 mths and they have their work cut out with the property and building it up again as a pub - all staff lovely , dog friendly - great location
Lovely ancient pub in this Pennine village. Staff could not have been more helpful. Property in good condition (the sloping floors are just a mark of the age). Food standard pub fare, but well presented.
Stayed for a couple of nights, staff were very frendly and helpful.
Rooms were simple but good enough for a place to sleep. Exceptional area for the price.

Great people, nice food and service, shower blocked by hair mass I sorted, room good, bed comfy, slightly dated decor but owners are new and dealing with decor. Overall a good stay.would go back happily.
Parking was easy, staff were very friendly! Only issue was, it seems like the radiator doesn’t work in room 1? It was quite cold all night. Bed mattress could be more comfortable too. It was a lovely place though and very cute town.
Lovely room, with a very nice bathroom. The hotel was well located within a 2 min walk from the centre of town which made an evening walk around the old sights very enjoyable. The parking was off site but very close by. The restaurant and bar were very nice. An open area for making the home made pizza was lovely and the breakfast was also very nice. The morning staff that served us at breakfast were very friendly and helpful even making a special sausage for our dog as a treat ! Highly recommended and great value for money !
The place was lovely. The staff were so friendly, they accommodate a few special requests of mine for food. I ate dinner there every night. The food was excellent, with lots of options for vegan meals. The room was clean and well presented. Overall, I enjoyed the stay more than I was anticipating. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone to stay at George’s.
We loved our stay at the George. Jos and Lindsay are lovely and run a very nice business. We had two rooms, wife and I and Daughter and Partner. We arrived soaking wet after a walk on Mam Tor. Checked in, had a laugh with the owners, parking was easy, rooms are excellent and clean, food good, beers good. Being born and raised in Derbyshire and an out doors person who spent years in the peaks before heading to that ‘great land down under’, I had somehow missed Hayfield. Lovely village and we enjoyed a clear day hiking after the rain, onto the moors straight from Hayfield. A great stay at the George was enjoyed and thanks Jos and Lindsay for your guidance on where to go.
The kitchen was under refurbishment so there was no breakfast available. It is not stated anywhere in the booking process. This was an issue. Otherwise nice cosy room, good location, good car park.
Had an absolutely fantastic stay at The George!! I booked a long weekend for myself and my brother to do some hiking. Hayfield is a beautiful gem of a village, and the hotel is perfectly placed in the Peak District for all the most scenic hikes. You can start Kinder Scout from the hotel itself and it's only a 10/15 minute drive to Edale Valley and Bleaklow.
Joss and Lynds have only recently taken over management of the pub/hotel at the end of January. They have such good energy and their enthusiasm for their business and community is truly humbling. Their customer service and hospitality make you feel really welcomed - they're just genuinely lovely people. The atmosphere they've created in the pub is so positive and we spent both nights around the bar having a laugh with Joss/Lynds, staff and the locals. Fantastic old fashioned pub and simply great vibes! Soon to serve food as well so will definitely be back for that!
The room was perfect, comfortable beds, clean room with a nice view of the hills. Parking is easy and there's always a few spaces available. Ignore older comments that state parking as an issue as the council have recently changed their rules and you no longer have to input your number plate to park.
Overall, I really cannot recommend highly enough and will definitely be telling friends and family to book a stay. Looking forward to coming back soon to see how Joss and Lynds are getting on with their venture!
