"Lovely guest house in a great location within walking distance to the bars, shops and restaurants. Breakfast was great, the room was were spotless and the hosts a lovely couple. The fact you get a parking permit is an added bonus too, I’d definitely recommend and would stay here again."

"The food at the Chequers was excellent. We had a great meal in the bar in the evening and breakfast was top class. The room was very comfortable but we found the tv small and difficult to view from the bed near the window. There was plenty of parking and we were able to park right outside our room which was on the ground floor. There was a nice sheltered little are to sit outside the room. "This is a fabulous hotel, in a great location, the rooms are clean and tidy, underground car park on site, think it's £12, per day but you can come and go as you please, the staff are both friendly and helpful, excellent breakfast included."

"Highly recommend. I was upgraded to the 2 bed apartment which was beautiful. Parking was great. Property was peaceful despite being near to the town centre. Everything you could need. Will be rebooking. "

"The hotel is wonderfully located in a beautiful old building. The bar area is very comfortably and the rooms are nice and bright, having had a refurb in the recent past. The staff are hit and miss, some are absolutely lovely, caring and helpful, others treat you like you’re in the way, which is a shame. The rooms have an iron and ironing board, kettle and basic toiletries."

"A good stay as always, some areas where very hot as heating was on but we were able to switch this off in our room. We had a fire alarm go off on Friday evening but staff were prompt to evacuate and well organized. "

"Unfortunately there was a very large wedding on the weekend we were there which definitely impacted negatively on our stay as there were lots of very loud people in the public areas. It would be better if they could be allocated areas that were specifically for them. Also disappointed in the menu for the dining room. I did not feel that the options reflected the rest of the facilities in the hotel. "
