Disappointing
It is very close to Hauptbahnhof, however a bit old and outdated, does not qualify to be rated 3 star or even 2 star. There is no elevator, carpets are stained and loose, bathroom has dirty caulking that is peeling off. And Wi-Fi is unsecured and compromised, my iPhone warned that there may be a monitoring and recording device on network, impersonating websites and stealing data. I couldn’t access internet.

Nice quiet hotel near train station stayed here over last few years when visiting germany. Clean simple room only negative is stages no elevator for heavy bags. Otherwise good value.

This was the only hotel left in Hamburg during a big convention. So they tripled the price, but at the end there was nothing else wrong with the hotel

This is a stereotypical cheap hotel. Tacky decor, a funky smell, flat pillows, and cheap shampoo. The night staff did not speak English. I could hear conversations happening in the lobby through my room door. However, on the positive side, the location was super close to the train station, I felt safe in the location, and a kind morning staff man helped me get my bag down the stairs. Overall, it's an OK place to stay and a good deal considering the location.

Another stay in Hamburg
The hotel is 5 mins walk from the the central station. My single room (9), top floor was without a lift, and was quite small and the hotel in general could do with a refurbishment. The bathroom towels were a bit tatty, although clean and fresh, the shower was good and worked well, compared to other hotels in the area. The room was noisy early morning due to busy traffic from the road and I could smell the traffic fumes which is a concern. Limited choice of breakfast; very nice coffee and the staff were extremely polite and welcoming. I would stay there again.

simple hotel a very short walk to rail station on a quiet street. front desk personnel very helpful . room was small but very clean. breakfast was also simple but adequate. would stay here again

Nice stay in Hamburg
I liked my stay there (overall) - for the price they offer. However, if you are after a good (or hot) breakfast - you will need to find something else. This hotel is better than some other cheap hotels in the center area, as it is located on a quiet street (no gangs, prostitutes, drinkers). The lake and main station are a few min away and there is a direct train to the airport (make sure you are in 3 front carriages). The walls are thin - so it will be hard to sleep if someone is speaking in the next room. I liked that the water was hot and the water pressure was perfect. (suggest to bring your own conditioner) You must give a key to a receptionist every time you leave the hotel (that's strange - but this is a rule). WiFi was quite fast (on the third floor).

Small central Hotel - ok for short stay
Hotel ok, great location near Central Train Station. Ideal for short break.Breakfast adequate, pleasant staff. Stayed in August with husband & 2 kids((20 & 17). Wi-fi in room excellent, best we've ever experienced! Old hotel and room stifling hot with no aircon (had a stand-up fan that didn't really make a difference)

The kocation was good. The room was very small for 3 adults. The lack of aircondition made our stay hot and sweaty. the ventilator that was supllied, did not improved the situation. Some of the desk clerks do not speak English. we asked for a delay checkout for the charge of 35 euros, but the clerck demanded that we checkout before the time because the room was promissed to other guests.

Great little hotel Hamburg Central Train station
Great small hotel on a great clean street Holzdamn near the Atlantic Hotel and a block and half from Hamburg Central train Station. Quiet street away from Hamburgs rougher side, a few blocks away with the sex parlours, addicts and drunks lying in the squares. Hotel is only 22 room, with half dozen with private toilets. Bed was good and free breakfast adequate in a nice eating area. Only difficulty may be the stairwell. It is wide but best rooms are on 5th and sixth floors. Staff are very responsive, speak several languages including good English. Very personable front desk. Bonus is a good Theatre a block away towards Central Stn.

Good for a conveniently located budget stay
Location is great - just a few minutes from the main Central station. The hotel is clean and functional; very by-the-book (check in at 2pm no matter what) and breakfast is perfectly adequate. Rooms are nothing special but have clean and comfortable beds. It was freezing in Hamburg so I appreciated the ability to control the heat in my room. Good for a budget stay!

The hotel is small but very clean and welcoming. The staff was helpful and attentive. The location is unbeatable! The hotel is close to the main train station, museums and restaurants. I would stay there again.

Excellent location
Excellent location and an easy walk to lake, station, underground and main shopping area. Staff were excellent and could not do enough. Rooms a little dated but clean. Pillows could be renewed as they were very soft. Breakfast adequate but basic. Only hot food was boiled eggs and the salad to go with the meat and cheese was limited. However, if you wish to spend a fortune on a hotel that you will not spend much time in go ahead. This hotel is reasonable for the price so give it a try.

Good location and exceptional service.
We had a one night stay and the help at the front desk was exceptional. He took the time to explain the train system which was very close. They also took a lot of time helping us get checked in for our flights. He spoke great English and the rooms were clean and quiet.

Hamburg family stay
I visited Hamburg with my family. Steens hotel was a very easy walk to points of interest and central station. The family room was very nice with very comfortable beds. This is a good location for seeing downtown Hamburg.

Decent hotel in a great location
Location is superb, just a few minutes walk from the central station. Our triple room had comfy beds and a very nice hot shower so no complaints there. Breakfast was average, and the service was good (friendly staff).

Nice stay! Close to train!
Came to Hamburg to visit family. Steen's was very close to main train station. Hotel was quaint and clean, good breakfast included. Rooms are small compared to regular U.S. Hotels and it is a "walk-up", so as long as you realize that beforehand all will be good! Staff was very friendly and helpful, good wifi service in room.

Stayed for two nights on a business trip. Small independent hotel on a nice quiet street. Within short walking distance of the railway station and city centre. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Convenient, clean and well-connected hotel
Friendly helpful staff, comfortable clean room. We knew there was no lift, so we didn't mind heaving our cases upstairs. The place is only five minutes walk from the main railway station, a short walk from the centre of Hamburg, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby.

Nice hotel close to Hamburg hbf.
It was a nice hotel close to Hamburg hbf. The breakfast was better than expected. Rooms were very clean. Our only issue was we were located on the third floor with no elevator. If you had heavy bags it could be a problem. Overall we thought it a great value. The beds were very comfortable!
