Perfect stopover
It was great to catch up with Kate & Ian for our second visit. The review scores for this B&B are not an exaggeration as the hosts are clearly seeking out perfection in all aspects, particularly the hospitality shown and the breakfast on offer. We use it as a Scotland stop-over and to us, its worth the drive from the M6, but the outstanding Northumbrian scenery makes it a destination in its own right. Can't recommend highly enough.

exceptional score no less than 10/10
I arrived at there through rain, they made me feel so happy, because of their warmful and comfortable treatment. I didn't find anything short of. The room was very clean, wide enough and well equipped. The breakfast was so nice and satisfying. Especially dry room was of great help.

Kate & Ian were amazing hosts. Easily the best B&B we have ever stayed at. Comfortable room and bed. Lots of important little details. This couple are making a big effort to do things well so well done them. Breakfast at one large table was exceptional. Kate made introductions and made everyone fit in. Definitely will be going back here!

Best B&B in England
You would be mad to consider staying anywhere else but at the Old Schoolhouse B&B for a trip anywhere near Haltwhistle. Ian and Kate bend over backwards to make sure your stay is comfortable, delicious, and convenient (including driving you to the nearby Hadrian’s Wall). The rooms are very comfortable, the beds are great, and it was the best shower I encountered in my whole trip to the UK. They are great cooks and the breakfasts were wonderful. We watched game shows in the living room in the evenings after a long day of walking.

The Old School House is an amazing place to stay. Completely beautiful and modern place to stay. Our hosts were awesome. Very welcoming. Easy parking. The room was spacious and the bathroom roomy with a larger shower than most. Several delicious breakfast options. Several pub and restaurant options within walking distance. Short drive to Hadrian's Wall and Sycamore Gap. Easily the nicest B&B we stayed at in the UK. Would stay here longer giving the opportunity.

We loved everything about our stay at The Old School House! Kate and Ian warmly welcomed us upon our arrival and we immediately felt like we were staying with friends. Our room was clean and comfortable, and even included a welcome snack! This was a last minute stop, and we were so pleased with our good fortune to stay in lovely accommodations in a beautiful setting. Our breakfast was the best one during our two-week stay in the UK; fresh, delicious food, very generous portions and plenty of options. Thank you for a wonderful stay at the end of our vacation.

We loved our stay at the Old School House B&B. Ian and Kate greeted us with a warmwelcome into their B&B and had lots of great recommendations for dining and things to see and do in the area. The room was clean, cosy and well decorated and had lots of extra little touches, with a good choice of tea, hot chocolate or coffee and milk in a mini fridge to make in your room. The beds were really comfortable and the bathroom was spacious and well-lit.The breakfast was delicious and generous, setting us up for a long day of hiking. And in the evening we returned to a beautifully made up and cleaned room again with the added surprise of delicious brownies. We didn't use the guest lounge are but it looked like a lovely area to relax and unwind in. The location is perfect being out of the village's main street but less than a 5min walk to all the shops and pubs etc. I highly recommend The Old School House and would definitely stay again if I plan another trip to the area. Best stay on our UK trip
The best accom we had during our 3 week UK trip. It truly fulfilled all our requirements (clean,quiet,parking,well priced) and more. The room was very comfortable and we loved having the use of a large sitting area filled with books and a stereo with a good selection of music(vinyl) available. Breakfast was also the best on this trip with a great choice and generous servings. There were many other thoughtful touches throughout which made our stay absolutely fabulous. I thoroughly recommend a stay of at least 2 nights here. Thank you Kate and Ian for your hospitality, information about the area and what to see.

We cannot say enough about the hosts, their hospitality and the beautiful place. Everything needed for a comfortable, luxurious, welcoming stay. Lots of thoughtful extras including a drying room, delicious lemon cake in the room as we arrived and a wonderful breakfast.

Great B&B for visits to Hadrians Wall
Ian and Kate were great hosts, giving us a warm welcome to their lovely home, which was modern, clean and very comfortable. The Border Breakfast was amongst the best breakfasts we have ever had, high praise indeed! Haltwhistle also has very convenient pubs and restaurants and ideally placed for walks along the wall and visits to Homesteads and Vindolanda.

Despite arriving late, cold wet and fairly miserable, we were met by Ian, who helped us put our motorbikes in the garage, and showed us our room, which was fantastic. After a really good night's sleep we had a fantastic breakfast. Ian and Kate are fantastic hosts, they really make you feel at home, we will definitely use The Old School House again if we're in the area.

Perfection
This has to be one of the most pleasant bed and breakfast I have ever stayed in. Kate and Ian were very personable and friendly, caring and attentive hosts and made us feel welcome! The beds were comfortable and clean. The bathroom facilities were clean and well provisioned. The breakfast was delicious and enjoyable. I couldn't be more effusive. I hope to come back again.

Amazing and charming.
The Old School House was absolutely the most charming and amazing guest house that we stayed in on our 3 week trip of the UK. The school house has been beautifully restored with updated features in every room. Our hosts Ian and Kate have a great eye for decorating detail and have thoughtful amenities in each room that made our stay so comfortable. Our bath was huge and immaculate. The beds comfortable. The room was sweet and cozy with a slice of homemade cake waiting for us. It was just what we needed after our long drive. We were also surprised that laundry facilities were available to us. That is a rare find. And breakfast.... Kate homemade granolas, jams and bread were unbelievably good. And we had our first taste of haggis and black pudding. Surprisingly tasty! This guest house is close to Hadrian's Wall and other hiking areas. Kate even drove a pair of hiking guests to their drop off point. For those who had a car like us, parking is conveniently out front. Can't say enough about this wonderful place.

A Hidden Gem 💎 by Hadrian’s Wall
Had a lovely stay with Ian and Kate for my Dad’s 60th after visiting the Tynedale beer festival! Our twin room was excellent, it was very comfortable and had everything we needed. I’d fully recommend their breakfast, all tastes are very well catered for and Ian and Kate are wonderful hosts. Haltwhistle is a nice little place too, located right by Hadrian’s wall with Northumberland National park on the doorstep! It’s got a few shops and pubs which look nice and an Indian restaurant we tried on the way back from the festival (recommended 😉). The train station is also close by so easy enough to travel further afield if needed. Will definitely look to book again and would thoroughly recommend.

Excellent location for hikers, cyclists ,motorcyclists and peaceful get aways. Owners are very friendly and hospitable nothing is too much trouble and they have lots of useful information to help you get the most from your stay. A variety of home cooked breakfast options available and home baked cakes are scrumptious 😋

Overnight stay on the way to Scotland
Overnight stay en route to Scotland. Due to traffic we were due to arrive much later than scheduled but after a short phone call to Kate and Ian that was no problem and on arrival we received a very warm welcome plus a much needed welcome drink. Great advice about where to eat in the village. Room was very comfortable with great facilities including premium teas and coffees including fresh milk in a cute little fridge plus home made cookies. Superb choice of breakfast with cereal, fruit, home made granola and home made muesli, fresh pastries and home made bread. We opted for the full English with all locally sourced ingredients which was delicious. Will definitely try to stay here again on our next trip to Scotland.

We stopped for one night to break up our journey to Isle of Skye. Quiet location, walking distance to local centre. Very Friendly owners, Ian's home made cakes were so delicious. Breakfast was fantastic. Highly recommended.
