This is the place to stay if you want to hike Hadrian's Wall. There are hiking trails that start really close to the hotel and lead you through beautiful scenery up to the wall. If you don't want to walk that far, there are buses available that will take you to various trailheads and back. The beautiful rooms are large, newly refurbished, and much more luxurious than you would expect for the price. Our bed was large and comfortable, there was a small closet, end tables with drawers, and a large desk, also with drawers, so you can unpack and you don't have to live out of your suitcase. There was a real coffee maker (French press) with real coffee, plus tea, biscuits and hot chocolate. The wifi was fast and the signal was strong in our room. The bathroom, though, deserves special mention. It is nothing short of wonderful. The shower was amazing. It was large, had more water pressure than you could possibly need and there was plenty of hot water. The towels were huge and fluffy and good toiletries were included. There was also a wonderful lighted, fog-free mirror. There's no breakfast, but there are plenty of places nearby to eat, plus a supermarket about a block away. The lighting is more than adequate and the room is really quiet. The proprietors are incredibly friendly and helpful. Phil and Helen work hard to make sure you have everything you need and are completely satisfied. We would definitely stay here again.
