"Things that went right: the breakfast was fine. And Keju on the check-in desk was a professional, cheery and very helpful person.
Things that aren't right: The rest of the check-in staff was morose and useless. Check-in took much longer than it should The hotel lobby is undergoing massive renovation -- it's ugly and dispiriting. In fact you could say that about the entire hotel: the carpet is blue and brown designed to hide dirt but ultimately just ugly, the hotel rooms are like prison cells as they have zero artwork on the walls, the lobby interior is grey concrete and exposed pipes, and there currently is no bar area. Why the renovation isn't disclosed on the hotels.com website is a mystery as we would haven't booked. The hotel phone in our room wasn't working at all and the TV kept asking how we were doing using some name other than our own. Finally, there was a function in our hotel on the night we arrived that prevented us from parking in the on-site lot we had already paid for -- ultimately, after driving around for ten minutes and finding nothing, we had to find an attendant and use valet parking. All this on top of an ironman competition weekend where the hotel raised its room rates 2-3x above normal -- you can only imagine how ripped off we felt. I have stayed at Marriott Bonvoy hotels in a number of cities and generally felt they were good and fair -- this one falls so far below the standard that Marriott should be ashamed."
