It’s a self-serve place basically. We never met anyone, check-in was online, we got the access to the room by email and we had no room cleaning for the 3 nights we stayed there. You can get any towels or extra toiletries from a shelf at the “lobby”. The room was ok in size but the pillows were very uncomfortable. Small bathroom but that’s how they all are in Japan.

Staying at THE GATE HOTEL KYOTO TAKASEGAWA was an unforgettable experience. The hotel blends modern elegance with a warm, welcoming atmosphere, and its location is fantastic—right by the Kamo River and within walking distance to Gion, Nishiki Market, and many great restaurants and shops.
The room was spacious, beautifully designed, and spotless. The bed was extremely comfortable, and all the amenities felt thoughtfully chosen.
The staff are friendly, professional, and always attentive. Breakfast was excellent, with both Japanese and Western options, served in a stylish dining space that made mornings feel special.
Overall, this hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. It’s the perfect balance of comfort, design, and location, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto.
