Budget hotel for the backpackers
Overall stay was fine. Please read the finer print about no elevators. Best for backpackers. Little India is nearby. The iconic cycle street art is walking distance from hotel. Less noisy.

The overall condition of the hotel
The hotel location is good but there is no private parking lots and if you’re driving you’ll need to look for parking lot around the hotel. The room condition is fine but there are too many mosquitoes flying around and that can disturb your sleep. They don’t clean the room and so don’t expect your room to be tidied up the next day when you come back from outside.

This was a really nice little place to stay. We had a double room which had a comfortable bed, nice powerful shower, good air conditioning. Water, tea and coffee available all day. It was on a quieter road and easy to wander to the rest of Georgetown. Only slight downside was the room was not very soundproof.

Great hotel in a perfect location
The hotel is perfectly located within walking distance of a lot of Georgetown’s attractions. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We booked for 2 nights but ended up staying for 4

Friendly staff, very helpful. Wonderful experience staying in a long house and even though we had the duplex room and shared bathroom we never met the other people or had to wait for bathroom so no inconvenience. All the sitting areas both down and upstairs were fabulous as well as free tea, coffee and water. Would definitely stay again and situated in a good area.

Bill hotel right in the hart of it all
Brill Hotel close to every thing but away a bit so not in a nosy area i love it here the staff are really good and will help out with anything free coffee and tea rooms are nice and cosy good beds brill power shower clean and comfort what more do need brill value for money and will return next time im here from j spence

Exceeded Expectations
We arrived at Lang Hoose a little early, way before check-in time, and the staff who attended to us, rushed to clean up our room so that we can have it. The staff were friendly and accommodating. They were generous in providing information of where to eat and where to go, which was extremely helpful as it was our first time in Penang. The room, the rooftop terrace and the common area were beautiful. We spend some time at the rooftop terrace playing cards at night and it was quiet and peaceful.

Great choice if you can tolerate the noise
This hotel is located in a stylish old building in the UNESCO historical disctrict, thus is accessible to most of the attractions in Penang. This is probably the lowest price you can get for such a historical hotel. The hotel is decently decorated (with old coca-cola bottles and tennis racket). The room itself is basic but still okay. What is annoying is that in both the nights I stayed, somes guys talked loudly in the lobby after 12:30 am and woke me up. Although I understood from others' reviews that the sould insulation of the building is bad, I did not expect that it could be such terrible. Well, if you can tolerate noise and want to try your luck not to meet these low-quality people, this place is definitely a good option.

Good location in historic George Town
Lang Hoose is an interesting building and the room was beautifully presented. The stairs are very steep, so if you have mobility issues try to book a ground floor room. The hotel is very close to some of George Town's famous sights and street art, including Khoo Kongsi, a very old and ornate clan house. The only problem with the room was the bathroom - there are windows both between the bathroom and bedroom, and bathroom and corridor! They have wooden sort of slats/panels, but you can hear very clearly through them!

I was shocked and found the roof of my room was leaking on the next morning due to a heavy rain pour on my first night stay. My bag, power bank and charger was wet. Managed to change to another room opposite on the same morning. The stairs to the rooms on 2nd and 3rd floor were very steep, so would not recommend for family with elderly and young children.

Good location
Directly positioned in Georgetown. Owner is also very helpful and friendly. We booked the family room, it's 2 stories with bedroom above. The stair steps are narrow, not ideal for elderly.

Nice hotel - comfortable and clean
Staff spoke good English and gave good recommendations on places to visit. They even let us use their land-line to confirm the hotel booking for our next destination. Unfortunately, despite the comfortable bed, we did not have a good sleep on the first night. We were awakened several times by the noise of gate opening when other guests returned past mid-night. So, remember not to take room no.21 which is just above the hotel gate. We were also awakened by heavy footsteps above us at 1 a.m. when guests returned and again at 4 a.m. when the guests left the hotel. We later understand that the floor of all colonial houses are not sound-proof. We had a great night sleep on the second night when the room above us was empty. So, lesson learned - do not take the room if the one above is occupied.

Hi Alice, We feel great that you like the stay except for the Room 21 as that room will be second option if the Room 22 is being occupied. The building is heritage and too old and not a sound prove and you will tend to hear lots of noises like food step while walking. We hope we can improve it better.

Perfect location
Right in the middle of Old Town, less than 5 minutes walk to all the restaurants, murals and attractions. We stayed in the spacious "Blue Rumped Parrot" room, with all the amenities we needed. Be aware this building is 100 years old, so do expect some imperfections. Overall the owners have done an excellent job updating and renovating the old OCBC bank building and the adjoining pawn shop. The common areas have wonderful antiques. Please ask Sharon, the manager, for good local places to eat and explore.

Nice and unique place to stay in Penang
Firstly, their host Mr Chew is very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place to tourists who have difficulties looking for value for money accommodation. LANG Hoose is located in the middle of the famous street art in Penang and is also walking distance from komtar bus station. This is a suitable place for you after spending your whole day exploring Penang. I have stayed here for one night and i like the design concept of Lang Hoose Residence however it is not convenient for my parents as the stairs are quite steep, other than this, my parents and I enjoy our stay here.

Well located heritage hotel with amazing service!
The hotel is under new management and the new owners are making improvements to make it the best it can be. Chew (owner) is a great host, he's very kind and considerate and loves a chat. While we were there he went above and beyond. He sourced anti histamine tablets for my wife. Also on our last night he brought us back some Malay food that we couldn't find so we didn't miss out. He then cooked it up in his own kitchen for us. It was like a home away from home stay for us. The hotel is lovely. It's a rustic heritage hotel in a part of town that's peaceful at night. However, it's still close to everything. We had a large room with a four poster bed and private bathroom. A mosquito repellent plug-in was supplied, you can choose to have housekeeping everyday, and fresh water is provided each day too. The attached cafe is now an ice cream parlour and not a cafe in the traditional sense. Don't worry though as you don't have to forego your morning brew. If you head 2 mins up the road you can find lovely cafes. Plus you'll probably enjoy the ice-cream once or twice like we did. If your coming from the ferry terminal with bags it's worth looking up the CAT bus, a free hop on hop off bus. Alternatively you can just walk straight down Beach st/Lebuh pantai. Chew offers you maps and gives you all the info you need on the area. Don't forget to ask him where's best for trying Malay food. Enjoy your stay in this beautiful UNESCO world heritage site and this great guest house.

Great Boutique Hotel At A Great Price
Lang Hoose is located in the Heritage district of Penang and it is easy to walk from here to many of the sightseeing spots and to many excellent eating places. It has been converted from an old traditional shop-house into a boutique hotel and it retains the feel of old time Penang while having been updated with modern facilities such as air-con and hot running water. This is a "budget" hotel, and while there is no swimming pool, room service or shopping arcade, the facilities are clean and comfortable and we were very happy staying there. Clara, the hostess, was very kind and extremely helpful. She recommended several restaurants/ hawker stalls to us, and we were never disappointed with her recommendations. She always had a smile on her face and nothing was too much trouble for her. My wife asked for a hairdryer and extra pillows, which were instantly provided. To top it all, she even was kind enough to give us a lift, along with all our luggage, in her car to catch our bus to our next location (Ipoh). I've stayed in several five star hotels, but have never received this kind of personal service before. On the minus side, the stairs are very steep and so may not be suitable for the elderly or the infirm. Over all this was a great hotel in a great location at a great price.

The location is really good. And there are many good food nearby. It is also very near Komtar which allow us to watch movies (very cheap!) and shop at a supermarket. Clara is also a very good host. She recommended very good places suitable for us to go. And recommended a lot of places with nice food. During our stay, we were very lucky to not have anyone staying in the room who will share the toilet with us. Overall, the whole place is very clean and tidy including the toilet. Our room is a two storeys room where your bed is upstairs and you enter from downstairs. The only problem is that the roof is very low nearer to the window and you have to be really careful esp when u just Wake up ^^ Overall, the experience is really good! And thanks to Clara, we had a even better experience at penang! (:

Real Authentic Penang Conservation Hotel
You will never believe what you will find in this hotel. Original prewar (World War II) shophouse hotel experience. Of course the rooms are clean and you don't find 10 families staying in it. Nicely restored with modern creature comfort ( Good sanitary ) check out the bathtub pictures. The place was airy and will give you a good night sleep. Yes there is WIFI but no TV for you. 1st Class service by the owners with constant attention given ( They are staying with you). The Location of the hotel was right in the heritage area and you are staying inside it. For those who want to experience the old world charm of the 1900s, this is the real deal. ( I lived in one of these before the govt evicted us in Singapore)

Great location & lots of charm
The hotel has a great central location right near Little India and other charming streets, street vendors, food outlets. The hotel itself is quite charming, the owners converted it with lots of personalised touches. Also, the tourist information provided in the hotel is comprehensive and very personal, so thumbs up! The cons: no fridge in the room (at least not in our room), I think that's quite a big drawback considering the climate and no TV (not a problem for us). All in all, for lots of charm, personalised service and before all a great location look no further.

Heart of Georgetown!
Overall, my stay at Lang Hoose was pleasant and enjoyable. I liked the interior design and atmosphere of the guesthouse, it had a rustic nostalgic feel to it. The resident cat, LaiGi, if you're lucky to see him, is very friendly and sweet too. The hotel owner, Clara was friendly and helpful. She provided my friend and I with a lot of tips and pointers on how to get around Georgetown. She also gave us many recommendations on what to do and where to eat. The room we were given was clean and cosy. The room had a very high ceiling so it was converted into a two storey room - a lounge area at the bottom and the bedroom is at the top. As the ceiling of the room is slight slanted, so the ceiling on the second floor is quite low. I have bumped my head against one of the ceiling beams a few times. Also, the bed is placed below the slanted side of the roof, so I would advise to be careful of the ceiling beams when you wake up in the morning. P.S. Insect repellent is HIGHLY recommended, the mosquitos are quite vicious.

Our Lang Hoose stay was great. The heritage-inspired decor and cozy ambient brims with good curatorial taste. And the host's hospitality just made our stay even more memorable. It was unfortunate though, that there was a hiccup with the wifi connection. Adding on to that is maneuvering within our room is not very friendly for senior citizens; steep staircase and slipper bath tubs taint the otherwise comfortable stay. But all in all we had a good time there, and will definitely look forward to our next visit in Lang Hoose again.
