"Overall the hotel was clean and comfortable. We felt that they were short staffed in the evenings. We ate in the hotel restaurant on our first evening and it was disappointing. Our first 3 choices of starter (out of 8 on the menu) were not available. The mains took almost an hour to arrive and when they did, none of our 4 meals was hot. The best was lukewarm but we were too tired and hungry to send anything back. Only 2 staff covering the bar and restaurant was not enough, and we had to queue...

The only thing I can mention negatively is that Expedia has the walking time to Durham down incorrectly. I think they meant it is a 13 minute drive not a 13 minute walk. "The thermostat to the radiators didn’t work so we couldn’t turn the temperature down and were therefore uncomfortably hot and got limited sleep. The mattress added to the lack of sleep as it was very uncomfortable. The door to our room you could close from the inside with a hard shove but you couldn’t close from the outside so we couldn’t leave anything valuable in the room. "The place was very popular with locals so parking was a bit awkward, we arrived after 6pm and there wasn’t much room to park. Maybe one criticism would be there isn’t reserve parking for staying guests and after travelling 140 odd miles and to be faced with hunting a parking space was as I said a little awkward. But that shouldn’t take away from what was a nice place to visit great food and a generous breakfast, clean room comfy bed."
