Do you have any tips for my flight to Barcelona?
- Flying can be a pleasure if you take the right things. First of all you'll need basic toiletries, such as lip balm and hand cream, a fresh change of clothes and a few magazines. Next, find a spot in your bag for your phone, tablet and chargers, any vital medications and perhaps a neck pillow too. Lastly, don't forget to take your passport, travel documents and your credit cards.
- Check carefully that you don't have a pocket knife hiding in the bottom of your hand luggage. Other banned items include flammable or explosive products, such as fuel and matches, and liquids and gels in containers with a volume of more than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres).
- Comfort should be your number one priority when choosing what to wear during your flight. Loose, breathable clothing is a sensible choice, as are flat, slip-on shoes.
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by lengthy periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Make a point of walking around the cabin or do some simple exercises in your seat to improve your circulation.
How to get through airport security fast when flying to Barcelona?
- Security personnel first need to verify that you have a valid ID and matching travel documents before you can proceed any further. Have them ready for inspection.
- Next up is the X-ray machine. Remove anything on you that is likely to beep. This includes things like earphones or headphones, as well as heavy jackets or coats. They'll all need to go on the X-ray conveyor belt.
- All your electronic gadgets, including your tablet and phone, must also be separately scanned.
- Remember to remove gels and liquids from your hand luggage. They usually need to be sent through the X-ray separately. Each product should be in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and everything must fit inside a single quart-size (one litre), clear zip-lock bag.
- Choosing your footwear wisely can save you valuable minutes. Hiking boots are often required to be removed and separately scanned. Slip-on shoes are usually not.
- Sharp or pointed items can't be taken on board. They'll be confiscated at security, so pack them safely away in your checked baggage.

Cheap flights to Barcelona
Barcelona is truly a city blessed. Perched by the sea it is home to some of the world’s most stunning architecture, a fantastic arts scene and a nightlife that is hard to match.
If you are looking for a romantic stroll down Las Ramblas, or just fancy marvelling at the Sagrada Familia, then there’s a cheap flight to Barcelona that has your name on it.
And we’re about to show you how to find it.
When to book your cheap flight to Barcelona
To be honest, there's a reason to go on holiday to Barcelona for every month of the year.
The summer months may see the lively city packed to the rafters, but there’s festivals to enjoy and a beach to soak up the sun from.
Spring and autumn offer better bets for a cheaper flight, and an ideal temperature to explore the city. But, take note, Easter’s Holy Week processions mean you’ll be hard pushed to find a real bargain flight during this holiday.
The best time for cheaper flights is from mid-September to November. If you want to really avoid the crowds, though, winter is not too cold (with the temperature rarely dropping below 2-3oC) and bargains are still available.
How to find the best flight deals for Barcelona
It’s not all about the season you book in, though. There are cheap flights to be found to Barcelona at most times if you know the secret tricks to find them.
To find the best price plane tickets to Barcelona try searching Expedia using these tactics.
If you have a little freedom over the dates you can fly then use our ‘Show Flexible Dates’ feature. This appears just above where your flight options are returned – and it lets you see exactly when the cheapest tickets are across a range of days near your suggested one.
Finally, you may wish to consider looking for flights that land in Barcelona Girona and Barcelona Reus airports. But do bear in mind that Girona and Reus are actually more than an hour by road or train from Barcelona itself.
Barcelona-El Prat Airport
The only airport that is in the city itself Barcelona-El Prat. It is more than an hour to the city if you select a flight to Barcelona Girona and Barcelona Reus.
Barcelona-El Prat is located just seven miles southwest of the city centre. Regular overland trains run to the city, with the journey taking around half an hour, and the city Metro has also now been extended to offer similar journey times.
There are also night buses (N17 for Terminal 1 and N17 for Terminal 2) that run to Plaça de Catalunya, and a more expensive but faster Airport Aerobus service.
Taxis from the airport can be as much as €40, but car hire is available from the airport – and it’s an easy drive into the centre.
Exploring Barcelona
To help you make the most of your time in the city here are three of its lesser-known attractions.
Lose yourself in the Parc del Laberint d’Horta (near Parc Guell) The hedge maze may be one of the city’s hidden gems, but it has been delighting visitors for centuries. Its tall manicured hedges create a maze with more than 600 metres of twists and turns.
See some tasty sculptures in The Chocolate Museum (Jaume I stop on Barcelona Metro) Combining the history of the world’s favourite treat, with a small dash of Spanish pride and some very artistic sculptures created from chocolate, this museum is so good you could eat it.
European Museum of Modern Art (near the Picasso Museum)
A temple to modernity, tucked away in an 18th century palace amid Barcelona's more well-known museums.
