"Great hotel, a bit dated in the decor but made up by the friendliness of the staff, clean rooms and hotel and food was fantastic. For the price and location, well worth it. 😀"

Crown and Mitre Hotel

"Very central right at the end of the Cumbria Way walk and next to the cathedral. We were able to park at the rear arriving just before 3pm. We had a twin room which overlooked all the roofs of the additions done to this hotel over the years. There wasn’t air conditioning in the room and our main window wouldn’t stay open without the spare toilet roll supporting it! Pigeons are an issue here with deterrents fixed to the window sills but they disappeared late afternoon. Our room was quiet at night. Water pressure was good for the shower but the floor did get wet as the shower screen wasn’t adequate. We stayed for breakfast, buffet style, which could have been a bit hotter. Overall it’s a lovely looking hotel from the front but inside there were areas of worn carpet to our room (248) and it looked a little tired in places."

Keswick Country House Hotel

"The Keswick Country Hotel is an old building, with lots of character. The staff were all incredibly helpful. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel in 2024, and were keen to return. This time, we paid for half board. We were so glad we did. The food was superb. The breakfast was amazing - the items on the hot counter were being topped up so regularly that it didn't matter whether we went early or later, there was always plenty of food. The evening meal was also excellent. The menu varied from day to day, with a wide selection of meat, fish and vegetarian options. As a Coeliac, I have to stick to a rigid gluten free diet, and I often dread eating out because of the risk of being 'glutened'. But there was no need to worry at the Keswick Hotel. I've never been so well looked after. The whole team were aware of my gluten free diet, and I never had to explain it to any of them. Before I could ask, they were explaining to me what food I could have, and how the chef could vary almost all the dishes to make them gluten free. The person who showed us to our table each day had a special sheet, edited by the chef, showing everything I needed to know about any dishes that might have gluten. I have never felt so reassured in any restaurant since I was diagnosed in 2007. Free parking (in Keswick!) was also very useful. We had a lovely room, with a stunning view of Latrigg and Skiddaw(?). When the room needed servicing, it was done very quickly and discretely. Well done Keswick Country Hotel."

"We had a great stay . Beds and pillows were really comfortable room was cool and a good size even in this hot weather . There was a fan in the room if needed Room was very clean great stay and good value. Being close to the motorway the rooms surprisingly quiet . Would defiantly stay again . Be aware if you book through a 3 party site you need to pay a £5 parking charge per night . If you book direct you do not . Breakfast is served at the services opposite the hotel Well done hotel team ."

"Had a wonderful 2 night stay at the Horse & Farrier. Room was excellent with great facilities , Comfy bed , iron and ironing board , hairdryer and lovely big shower. full size fridge and wine glasses and a sink complete with fairy liquid, great if wanting to eat in as there was also knives and forks in a drawer. We had a meal on the second night which was really good. The staff were amazing ,really friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. There is a bus stop directly outside and buses into the city centre are frequent and cheap(£2.40 single) Would stay again and recommend."
