About Busan

South Korea’s second largest city, Busan is known for its seaport, beaches, hot springs and events and is a popular alternative to the much busier city of Seoul. Busan is a laid-back city located on the southeast tip of the peninsula that is home to the country’s largest port, largest beach and longest river. It is a major business, commerce and financial centre, attracting all different types of tourists.

Don’t Miss

Haeundae Beach is one of the most popular attractions in the city as well as being one of the country’s most famous beaches. Along with boasting a 12km stretch of beach, Haeundae Beach is also home to the Busan Aquarium and some of the most lavish hotels in the city, including The Westin Chosun Busan and Paradise Hotel Busan.

Visitors interested in the historical side of Busan should be sure to visit Beomeosa Temple, which is one of the greatest temples in the country. It is a serene complex that is located on the slopes of Mount Geumjeongsan and features a number of national treasures. Yonggungsa Temple sits on the shoreline and is famous for its beautiful Buddhist statues and sculptures, as well as its stunning architecture.

The 69,000-square-metre Yongdusan Park is home to the 118-metre tall Busan Tower. Also in the park is the Museum of World Folk Instruments, Palgakjeong, statue of Yi Sun-sin and the Exhibition Hall of World Model Boats. The coastal Taejongdae Park is famous for its lighthouse and magnificent cliffs that overlook the sea.

Restaurants and Bars

Busan is known of its fresh fish and seafood, with the Jagalchi Fish Market being the cheapest place to eat fresh catches of the day. The city is also famous for its pork soup, which is served in specialty restaurants. There are also Thai, Indian, Japanese and other international eateries throughout the city though some of the best restaurants are housed in high-end hotels like the Novotel Ambassador Busan. Nightlife can be found everywhere, though the Kyungsung University area, Nampo-Dong and Haeundae are the liveliest places to drink in Busan.

Shopping

Nampo-dong is Busan’s main commercial area and is filled with shops, department stores and street vendors. The area around Kyungsung and Pukyong Universities is great for shopping for trendy Korean fashion and vintage clothing, while Seomyeon Shopping Center is great for shopping for known labels. Busan is also home to Shinsegae Centum City, which is the largest department store in the world.
