WOW - absolutely stunning

We stayed here for 2 nights recently and was blown away with the accommodation. The Guinness Arms had just gone throigh major renovations and we were lucky to be one of their first few guests. From the moment I booked the service we received was amazing, the room was stunning. They have clearly put a lot of time and thought into the rooms, the finnish is amazing - to be honest we didnt want to go home. We only had breakfast there but that was really nice and the staff were ao friendly. We had drinks in the bar during the evening and the manager was great at knocking up a cocktail for me.

Great weekend getaway

Great.... modern clean room with tea/coffee facilities Obliging staff ..nice bathroom with good power shower .. we ate in the pub which was lovely .. Only downside was no breakfast due to Covid restrictions ... recommended

Well refurbished pub

Very nice room at this recently refurbished pub. Rooms have separate access, food was also excellent and gardens were very attractive. Loads of parking too

Disappointed

Rooms nicely decorated and quiet. The restaurant looks lovely and dinner was delicious with a very attentive staff. Now for the cons: advertising some rooms as having a private courtyard but there is no direct access to it from the room, you share it with several other rooms and it is in full view of the restaurant entrance and its garden(full of customers) so no privacy whatsoever.Big signs in rooms indicating they had deep cleaned them as per Government guidelines, that is not true. Dust everywhere: lamp on desk, coffee tray,etc. Small make-up mirror on desk covered in smudged marks and when opening the hardback folder containing hotel information we found a used blue face mask crunched up inside, upon calling reception about it someone came removed said mask with their bare hands, barely uttered a sorry, and left the same folder. Despite featuring as a 4.5 stars hotel, there is no safe in the room to keep valuables and no minibar. The bathroom is minuscule.

Very pleasant and comfortable stay

We stayed one night in a Design Double Room, which was in a newly built separate annex next to the pub. It was nicely decorated and furnished. The room name was "Walter" and inside were interesting photos with explanations related to Walter Guinness, 1st Baron Moyne. Bed was comfy. The room was quiet. En-suite was compact but functional and the water for the shower was nice and hot. Due to Covid measures, there was no breakfast (which we knew about beforehand, both from the Hotels.com web site and also from a prior message sent to us from the hotel staff). We did not eat in the pub's restaurant, but we did have a drink in the pleasant surroundings of the bar area in very comfy armchairs. efficient table service - no ordering at the bar. The car park is massive and there is 1 charging point for an electric car. There is a lot of seating outside and also a good looking children's play area.

Excellent experience

Easy check in, lovely clean room, great shower in bathroom, service by all the staff was excellant even though they were very busy as it is table sevice only at the moment. We had food in the restraunt which was very nice.

Good but noisy room

Lovely place with nice terrace, the room is beautiful. However the noise from the room upstairs was very annoying,kids running around and couple arguing...

Great location & great room. Lovely pub with lovely evening meals menu, due to circumstances (covid) breakfast wasn't back yet, but that didn't affect us, water, tea & coffee available in the room. Friendly & helpful staff. Inside & out all well kept, clean & maintained. Large car park, terrace & gardens with a play area all kept neat & tidy.

Fabulous and Friendly

Fabulous and friendly staff and management, we came here for a weekend away and I couldn’t recommend highly enough...for us the mattress was too soft, but The Guinness Arms is an exceptional place to stay

Very very good

Fantastic rooms, very new. Some of the pictures on the bedroom wall were a bit spooky and old fashioned. Very nice place. Staff extremely friendly. Menu a bit limited but food quality was superb. Would definitely stay again.

A very comfortable and ideally located Hotel.

The location of Guinness Arms was perfect, just outside Bury St Edmunds, and within easy reach of Thetford Forest, Elveden, Newmarket, Cambridge and Norwich. The boutique room was tastefully furnished, and each room bearing the name of a 'Guinness' family. The restaurant, which has recently been refurbished, is large and very welcoming and the food outstanding, and pleased to say, locally sourced. As for the management and staff, we can't praise them enough for their personal service, attention to detail and pleasantness. Already planning to return, when possible.

Lovely stay

Wonderful renovation of a beautiful old pub alongside new rooms. Decor, food, drink, staff, bedroom and bathroom were first rate. Only little niggles were no bin in the bedroom and only one English breakfast teabag on the tea tray.

Damaging cost cutting.

We stayed for one night, the room was really nice, quite small but okay. Toiletries were cheap and nasty though considering they are a boutique hotel. We could hear every footstep or drawer or door from the room above. We could hear talking, Not really what I would expect and certainly not acceptable to have so little privacy. Food in restaurant was excellent, no seats in bar which was a bit of a shame when we arrive, had to buy drinks and go to our room to drink them. Breakfast was nice but choice was limited. Wouldn’t stay here again and have stayed in much nicer four star hotels.

Stunning room and pub. Room was decorated beautifully and pub is cosy, welcoming and really well refurbished. Great food, staff couldn't be more helpful. Will definitely be staying again. Highly recommended, i often shy away from pub/b&b to stay in bigger hotels as ive had a few disappointments when you get there and it's not as nice as the pic. The Guinness arms is better than the pics, wel with a try, you won't be be disappointed.
