Barnard Castle is a great place to visit and the Cricketers Arms is well located.
Room is clean, modern, comfortable and all staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
I stayed here with my partner for a wedding. I got here around midday and fro that point onward everything was fantastic. All of the staff here were so friendly and accommodating, even arranging taxis for us and then keep an eye on them to arrive while we had a beer. We got back around midnight and had a chat with the owner, who again was really friendly.
The room was super clean, fresh and cosy. The bed was big and the sheets were really crisp! If you’re ever in Barnard Castle I highly recommend you stay here, you won’t be disappointed. It’s a literal stones throw away from everything, so you can go for a mooch the next day and get a decent brew and cake before heading home!
Thank you everyone at Cricketers Arms, you made a great day perfect!
We loved staying here, but you may have different expectations, but what i can say, is that this was one of the most welcoming and warm places we have ever stayed.
Things we now know - breakfast is not currently included (no food is served) and the pub below is closed on Mondays (we stayed Sunday night) - but Barny has plenty of other places to choose from for brekkie
The room was lovely, clean, warm and well proportioned.
Beth at reception was professional and welcoming and showed us our room and shared all the info we needed easily and quickly. She was a great person to check in with.
Tom and Amanda (management) were accessible, visible and friendly. nothing was too much trouble for any of the team. Some staff on their day off were patronising the facilities in the evening we stayed and were also very friendly.
The place is old, so single glazing, which didn't cause us issues.
Overall we had a really nice time, with a sociable and friendly team and felt like we were really well looked after
Checked in with no problem by a friendly manager called Tom. They have a good quiz on in the pub on Wednesdays with reasonably priced drinks. There is no food option due to corona staffing problems but this is industry wide. You cannot get takeaway deliveries in Barnard Castle but this is not the pubs fault but you can get an eye test like Dominic Cummins.
Helpful, friendly staff, the Cricketers Arms was perfectly situated for all there is to see and do, clean comfortable rooms, the only downside was you could hear traffic from 05.30hrs.
Check in excellent shame about the 10 oclock closing time but this was not the pubs fault it was mr co-vid. The room was lovely bed very comfortable and room very clean will stay again
Really enjoyed it, room was clean, tidy and had everything you need. The bar staff were really helpful and made you feel right at home - couldn't fault it!
Arrived at the check in time in their confirmation and a man sitting inside pointed to us saying that the check in is at 5 pm (3 hours later than on the document sent). We had to explore town with our backpacks on which was a major hassle. we then went back at 5 with back pain and the lady at the bar (very professional)had to call the owner as she didnt have our booking, the owner apparently forgot we were coming! they said they will prepare the room, we then had to wait about an hour with no news and no owner coming in to apologise, so we left had dinner and came back. we were then let into the room (by 6.30 pm! considering we paid for a room from 2 pm this was a shocker). Then the wifi did not work. the room itself was clean and bed comfortable and lady at bad brilliant. But then come 7.30 am the kegs started being delivered to the pub and there was a major noise that woke us up with men shouting and throwing beer kegs. We then woke up and left at 8.30 am. so overall major mess up at check in, no apologies from owners whatsoever and only 12 hours of having the room. big disappointment!
