  • Home of Freeman Walker, outstanding citizen of early Georgia. Born in Virginia in 1780, he came to Richmond County in his youth and studied law. Freeman Walker, in 1826, deeded 70 acres of land to the United States Government to be used as an arsenal-the site now of the Junior College of Augusta. He reserved one acre as a family burial ground, known as the Walker Cemetery. He was the father of Maj. Gen. W. H. T. Walker, CSA. Admitted to the bar in 1802, he followed a life of public service; City Attorney for three years and Mayor of Augusta 1817-19, being the first to hold the city´s chief executive office under the name of Mayor, and Brigade Inspector of Gen. Valentine Walker´s brigade in 1813. He represented Richmond County in both branches of the State Legislature and represented Georgia in the U. S. Senate. His speech on the Missouri Compromise attracted nation-wide attention. He died in 1827 and is buried in the Walker Cemetery.

Rooms were VERY clean, staff was professional and accommodating, very affordable for amenities given, ladybugs do find their way in, but that’s the only “negative” comment I would add. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would definitely book again!

Comfortable and quiet

It’s a decent place, kinda old but still comfortable. Rooms look kinda like apartments. Fridge and a small stove top for cooking. Staff are very friendly, really enjoyed my stays there.

During Masters week only one dryer was working. That was very annoying. The stove was not great. I knew ahead of time to bring my own pots and pans. I never used it due to the eye was crooked and didn’t seem safe. The staff was great! The rooms were okay. I brought my own cleaning items.

The staff was very nice and helpful. The room was outdated, room but clean , there is no iron. The hall smell very bad and the carpets extremely dirty with lot of stains. If you are on the road and looking to sleep a few hours it ok.

Needed a place for some sleep and this place was just fine for that. One of the cheaper options I quickly found and I likely got what I paid for. The only real criticism I would offer was that the picture looked nothing like my room. My room was much more Spartan than the picture shown. The room was very clean though. The hallways smelled of smoke but the room smelled good and as I said was very clean. A coffee pot would have been awesome. But the amenity list truly does not mention coffee. This is what happens when you assume.
