Stayed for 3 nights at Marsden Viaduct (which is basically the Sofitel) but cheaper. It uses 2-3 floors of the Sofitel Hotel. You arrive at Sofitel reception area and call Marsden reception to check in and a staff member comes and greets you and takes you to Level 3 to their reception. All the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Great location, easy walking distance to Wynyard area and also Viaduct with plenty of restaurants, cafes, supermarket etc. Easy for all transport options. Lovely and quiet, with a beautiful outlook. Close enough to walk anywhere in CBD, Britomart etc. Huge room, very comfortable bed, great amenities. Will definitely stay here again, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone.

Great view of viaduct and sky tower. Comfy beds and great shower. Tv wasnt great it would glitch and go to home screen in middle of show. And would stop to load. But wasnt there to watch tv so didnt bother me too much.

We had a long gap before our return flight (11 hours) and Anil helped us immensely by getting us into a room before 2pm. Amazing when a property can go above and beyond for their guests. We highly recommend this property for all travels, situated in a great location for walking into town.

The shower didn’t work well, the wand was loose and shot water everywhere. The rain shower worked but flooded the entire washroom. Our air conditioner wouldn’t keep up and was quite warm. The hotel was located in a great area, close to the harbour and many fantastic restaurants.

Perfect Location
Booked by our daughter. Arrived Hogmanay after a long flight from UK. Greeted on arrival and bags taken to reception, where booking in was seamless. Room over looking Marina, perfect to watch the New Year fireworks from Sky Tower. Bed very comfortable. Air conditioning struggled a little initially. Great wifi but TV didn’t work, but not a big issue as we really were not in the room that much. Excellent location for walking to ferry terminal/exploring and boat watching.

The café for breakfast was closed, no notification from the property. We tried to order room service an hour before the option was closed as it was raining outside, was notified it wasn't happening, and it was hot and muggy in Auckland and our room had no working air conditioning. When we notified staff they seemed apathetic to our concerns. Beautiful property, good location, but unfortunately not impressed by the service and lack of a/c in the new zealand summer.

Check in was a little disorganised and confusing. Especially as a foreign tourist having to call them when you arrive is expensive and frustrating especially when it isn’t answered. TV didn’t work in the room and was fairly noisy with road traffic but the bed was super comfy.

The front desk staff on arrival were friendly and helpful however the wifi on the tv was not working initially. When I called front desk for help the operator had an attitude and was stand-off ish. The manager did eventually come to the room to fix which was helpful. When I callee to ask for extra towels it took literally hours to come to our room. The room was advertised as sound proof, it was not. Parking was not accessible and would have costee $90 for two days. The off street parking at wilson car park costed $80. View was great, personal service was good but phone etiquette was terrible all 4 times. Staff answering phone calls need to work on their attitude, they made me feel like they were doing me a favour by doing their jobs correctly.

Hi,Allow me to acknowledge the feedback. We are in the process upgrading our Wifi systems and very soon our guests will enjoy a much better wifi service.There are limited spots for parking with us and therefore we do not advertise them and are given on a first come first serve basis just as a convenience for the guests. These are priced at 45 per night, however you can go in and out of the parking as many times you like during the day, in comparison with Wilsons, that is not the case, where once parked you are unable to come out and reenter, as far as we understand. Also since our parking is only accessible by staff it is much safer as compared to a public car park like Wilsons.We tracked the call logs and these were attended by our external team and therefore the relevant staff are being retrained as we speak on how to interact with customers.Thank you for choosing to stay at the Marsden Viaduct, hopefully we can see you again for a much better experience.

The reception being on the 3rd floor is hopeless, took half an hour and two phone calls to even meet someone who could help. The cold shower in the morning wasn't great. Generous with tea and coffee but stingy with the milk. Wording on emails wasnt very clear and didn't make sense in some cases.

A damp stay
The room itself was comfortable and clean. I could hear water dripping in the early morning and then banging outside of my room. When I turned the light on I could see that the floor was wet and water was coming out of the ceiling near the door, along the walls and in the bathroom. As I got out of bed someone from the hotel entered my room and seemed surprised to see anyone there. My clothing was wet but thankfully my suit in the wardrobe was dry. I rang reception to see if another room was available and was told that the whole hotel was affected. This was clearly not true. I made the decision to shower and leave given the state of the room. Reception seemed uninterested when I gave my room key back. Whilst this issue may not have been of the hotels making, their handling of it was poor and I was disappointed not to be contacted at all to see if I was OK and to offer an apology.

Bed is comfortable, room is spacious, bathroom is big, room is comfortable and clean but definitely not luxury. It appears that this hotel used to be part of the Sofitel, but is now the same rooms with the same fittings, with an awkward shared entrance, and all of the luxury components have been stripped out. There was a faulty light in the bathroom, a broken blind and the TV was unplugged and needed reconfiguration. This was all taken care of promptly with no fuss. The staff were gracious, and made check-in and check-out simple. If you’re looking for the Sofitel experience without the luxury components, and don’t mind an odd sense of cheaping out and feeling a bit out of place, Marsden offers a great location and a non pretentious stay.
