"This is an older hotel/onsen that has been bought by a Japanese chain, and they have done a great job refurbishing parts of it while keeping the general feel of an older onsen. My friend and I greatly enjoyed our stay. We found the staff very kind and helpful, the food good, and the atmosphere in general very pleasant. Everything felt reasonably priced, and we had no problems using the onsen even with tattoos. We greatly enjoyed our stay and recommend it to anyone else looking for some peace in the Japanese mountainside."

"We had a fabulous stay here myself and adult daughter. The hotel was set in ร  beautiful area with lots to see (although you really need a car to get around and make the most of the area). The staff were exceptional even to the extent of posting on my daughterโ€™s headphones which she accidentally left behind. The food was fantastic both dinner and breakfast. The highlight was the onsen which had a wonderful view over the river. Cannot recommend this enough"

"Had a great stay. The room was spotless and very comfortable, and quiet. Our hosts were absolutely fabulous - so friendly and warm. The meals were delicious. We ate in every breakfast and dinner. The cooking was exceptional. Location was great - just a two minute drive up to the ski hill"

"A nice set-up for a ski-in/ski-out resort. My kids also had great lessons with an English instructor. Getting to Appi Kogen was also quite easy with the buses from Morioka Station. We were also bumped up to a larger room, which was very comfortable, especially by Japanese standards. That was also great. Howeverโ€ฆ.. The only drawback was the very limited food options, especially for dinner with young kids, who donโ€™t eat very much anyway. We live in Japan, so weโ€™re accustomed to Japanese portions, local izakayas, bentos, etc. But this was challenging. It was either spend 20,000ยฅ-30,000ยฅ for a mediocre buffet, where the kids just wanted a few bites of the simplest food. Or a yakiniku restaurant that wouldโ€™ve been 30,000ยฅ - 40,000ยฅ for a family of 4. High-end sushi spot that wouldโ€™ve been even more pricey. (The room service menu is quite sad, and again would be close to 20,000ยฅ) Or, youโ€™re left with getting instant Nissin ramen cups at the convene, which is what we ended up doing the last night. (Breakfast, again, pay steep prices at the buffet, or wait till the bakery opens at the comically late hour of 10:00am, when you of course want to be on the slopes.) Anyway, Iโ€™d suggest packing some of your own bentos, or be prepared to pay. ยฅยฅยฅยฅยฅยฅ"
