The Smerald 2
The Smerald 2"Ok for the night, room was clean, bed was comfy, quiet despite facing a busy street, liked having a kettle but didn't like plastic cups (actual mugs would be preferred and environmentally sustainable...). Great location, close to the beach, easy walking everywhere."
Where to stay in Alghero

Alghero City Centre
Step back in time as you wander the honey-colored medieval streets of Alghero City Centre. Ancient Aragonese towers stand guard along seafront walls where the Mediterranean sparkles beyond. This unique historic district blends Italian charm with Catalan heritage, visible in Gothic architecture and bilingual street signs. Stroll the scenic Bastioni Marco Polo promenade for breathtaking sunset views over turquoise waters. Discover hidden courtyards housing artisan coral workshops between visits to the imposing cathedral and Palazzo d'Albis. The compact centre remains entirely walkable, letting you easily explore its rich cultural treasures.
Lido
Lido is Alghero's golden stretch where Mediterranean waves kiss the shore and beach life thrives. San Giovanni Beach anchors this sun-soaked resort area where colourful umbrellas dot the sand. The palm-lined Lungomare Dante promenade offers perfect sunset strolls along the azure coastline. The area balances seaside relaxation with convenient amenities for visitors. Waterfront restaurants serve fresh seafood and traditional Sardinian dishes with ocean views. While Lido focuses on beach pleasures, Alghero's historic centre remains just a short drive away.

Alghero Old City
Step into Alghero's Old City where honey-colored medieval walls embrace a Catalan-infused treasure. Narrow cobblestone streets wind between Gothic churches and coral artisan shops. The Mediterranean Sea sparkles beyond ancient ramparts, offering breathtaking sunset views for evening strolls. This pedestrian-only district invites unhurried exploration of its rich heritage. Seafood restaurants serve fresh catches in candlelit piazzas while church bells echo off limestone walls. From the cathedral's imposing bell tower to intimate courtyards, Alghero's historic heart captivates with authentic Mediterranean charm.

Pivarada
The historic Pivarada district in Alghero captivates with its Catalan Gothic charm and medieval character. Golden limestone buildings line cobblestone streets that wind towards the turquoise Mediterranean. Ancient walls and towers tell stories of centuries past while church bells echo through narrow alleys. Visitors can stroll the waterfront promenade for breathtaking sea views or explore traditional coral jewellery workshops. Local trattorias serve authentic Catalan-Sardinian seafood specialities like lobster and sea urchin pasta. San Giovanni Beach and the picturesque harbour are just steps away from this walkable area.

La Pietraia
La Pietraia offers a peaceful retreat from Alghero's tourist crowds. This quiet residential area gives travellers a genuine glimpse into local Sardinian life. You'll find affordable accommodation and a handful of authentic trattorias serving traditional cuisine. The area provides easy access to San Giovanni Beach and Alghero's port. Small convenience stores and local bakeries cater to residents rather than tourists. With tree-lined streets and a relaxed atmosphere, La Pietraia appeals to travellers seeking value and authenticity during their Sardinian stay.

Top Alghero Hotel Reviews
Alghero Vacanze Hotel
"bathroom terrible condition"
Smy Carlos V Alghero
"Fantastic stay (made even better by an amazing room upgrade, thank you!). Great location, beautiful views, excellent facilities, friendly staff. Would certainly stay again and recommend to all!"
Hotel Calabona
"On the positive, It was pet friendly. The pool was big with many transats around. The set up of the rooms around the pool makes it noisy for a siesta or for sleeping early morning because they vacuum the swimming pool early in the morning. As for the room, the floors were not cleaned for the long of our stay. The shower head was broken and kept on falling."
Hotel Domomea
"Great location Friendly staff"
El Faro Hotel & Spa
"Very nice hotel, especially for the cost. But the staff and maintenance was not five-star. The view from the balcony was amazing and the best part"
Hotel Oasis
"Clean property, good location, nice pool, good breakfast"
Hotel dei Pini
"The pictures donโt do the hotel justice. The rooms were big and clean, the pool was one of the best Iโve seen and the beach chairs etc were super comfortable."
Hotel Soleado
"Perfect beachfront location. Nice walk to the old time on an evening approx 25 mins"
San Francesco Heritage Hotel
"We had a lovely stay at the Francesco Heritage Hotel. The staff were very helpful and obliging unfortunately we did not get the room that was showing on the website even though I did check before arriving and the room we were given was not finished as there was a lot of tiling grouting and sealant that needed snagging. We did not have a mini bar to start with, but that was delivered after the first three days and there was no table or chair which was a bit inconvenient but otherwise the room was nice. Great location in the wonderful old town of Alghero."
