Adisumarmo International Airport (SOC) serves the city of Surakarta in Central Java. It mostly plays host to low-cost airlines flying from Jakarta, a few other domestic Indonesian towns plus Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. The passenger terminal dates from 2009 and offers passengers streamlined departures and arrivals. The airport is 15kms northwest of Surakarta.Don’t Miss
Due to regular shuttle bus services and the easy availability of taxis, Surakarta (Solo) and all its attractions are within easy range. The old Royal Palace and the Radyapustaka Museum in Sriwedari Park are Solo’s chief cultural draws. Surakarta is a hub for Javanese dance and culture. A small theatre in Sriwedari Park is the venue for frequent wayang wong dance shows. A fun experience is provided by a jaunt aboard the steam-powered Jaladara Train.
Adisumarmo International Airport (SOC) is a little nearer to the pre-historic man archaeology site at Sangiran. The museum at the site has models of Mt Lawu and the local area as it looked one million years plus fossils, old skulls and other ancient exhibits. A hike up Mt Lawu is a must for nature lovers with lovely views, beautiful flowers and volcano lakes waiting at the top. Temples like Prambanan, Candi Cetho and Candi Sukuh are accessible on daytrips from Solo.Restaurants and Bars
Between Adisumarmo International Airport (SOC) and downtown Solo there are a number of establishments such as Muhammadiyah Surakarta University plus Manahan Football Stadium so the choice of eateries serving local food is reasonable. These include gudeg Solo jackfruit curry and tongseng stew. Food such as Japanese, KFC fried chicken and pizzas are mostly found at restaurants in central Solo. Gambir Anom is among accommodation options with additional restaurants and the few bars in the locality.Shopping
Although it is a busy airport, shopping choices at Adisumarmo are limited and it is better to buy souvenirs in town. The famous Surakarta batik cloth is found at Pasar Klewer and also in Kauman. Stalls at Triwindu Market sell a range of antiques to satisfy all tastes. Solo Paragon Lifestyle Mall is one of several shopping centres where visitors will find books, jewellery, watches, fashion clothes, mobile telephones and electronic gadgets.
