"My stay at Lumley Castle Hotel was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome — attentive, friendly, and always ready to go the extra mile without ever being intrusive. The room itself was beautifully presented, blending historic charm with modern comfort. The bed was incredibly comfortable — the kind that makes it very hard to get up in the morning — and ensured a perfect night’s sleep after a long day. One standout detail was the shower: powerful, hot, and exactly what you want to relax and recharge. It’s a small thing, but it made a big difference. Overall, Lumley Castle delivers a unique and memorable experience. The combination of character, comfort, and outstanding service makes it a place I would happily return to and highly recommend, to the point we have booked to stay longer next year."

"Overall the hotel was clean and comfortable. We felt that they were short staffed in the evenings. We ate in the hotel restaurant on our first evening and it was disappointing. Our first 3 choices of starter (out of 8 on the menu) were not available. The mains took almost an hour to arrive and when they did, none of our 4 meals was hot. The best was lukewarm but we were too tired and hungry to send anything back. Only 2 staff covering the bar and restaurant was not enough, and we had to queue at the bar for wine for the table."

"A great room, with a spacious bathroom which was clean and well maintained. A fantastic breakfast in the morning with a full English alongside cereal etc. great value. The guest house is located in a nice convenient area."

"The check in process could be clearer I'm not sure if this was an issue with hotels.com who I booked through or the venue but I didn't receive any check in instructions and when I got to the location the restaurant was closed and I was sat outside nearly an hour making phone calls trying to get in. That said the room was lovely for what I paid and once I was in the staff that I saw were really friendly and acommodating. The location is perfect for where my office is when I need to be in Durham so I would definitely stay again."

"Absolute worst. I couldn’t make the reservation and tried canceling prior and was fully declined any refund or credit. Even though they weren’t full booked they flat out refused anything. Karma comes around "

"Very noisy, not a great ideas to put me on a. Corridor which had a hen party. Woken up constantly. People unreasonably loud in corridor. Check in was unfriendly but check out lady was lovely. Would definitely not stay again "
