The beginning was a little bumpy yet after I addressed my concerns, the management in all departments including frontdesk and F&B went out of there way to make this visit for my mother and me even more memorable than expected. I have visit over 200 hotels world-wide in the last three years, and witnessed a combined effort to make things more than right for us. Since I was working as an F&B Manager on a few cruise ships with years of training in Europe and experience in 5 Star leading Hotel worldwide, I was truly impressed. Next to a dinner invitation we were honored with a massive room upgrade with no questions asked. The staff was always extremely friendly and forcoming. I can definitely recommend this magnificent looking Hotel.

Excellent hotel near the airport and short drive to the city. Clean large pool and beach for swimming. Plenty of shaded sitting areas. Restaurant food is good. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Rooms have beautiful views. Would be nice if some music or entertainment on Friday night. However music is provided at the Thai restaurant.

Friendly and welcoming.

Overall, we had a great stay. The rooms were comfortable and the shower was amazing. When we had any issues they were dealt with very promptly and without any fuss. Pity that the half board rate only related to their main dining room and not to other restaurants on the site. Great swimming pool although hard to get out of if you are a little weak. Breakfast was generous and had different offerings each morning which made for a nice variety. Not really a resort but a nice, relaxing place to be for a few days.

This property was amazing. Stunningly beautiful and everything was thought of. Customer service was top notch. The only areas of improvement for me was that wifi was very slow in some rooms and spaces and the long nails of the spa ladies did not provide for an optimal experience. Other than that - 10/10.

Good stay but not quite 5 Star

Madinat Al Bahr has a lot going for it. The architecture is striking, the location is peaceful, and staff are warm and welcoming. I enjoyed my stay overall, but it does not quite hold up to the 5-star standard it advertises. The room was spacious and comfortable, but small details stood out. On arrival I found an ironing board but no iron. Once I requested one, staff brought an iron but the board had disappeared, apparently shared among guests. When I did use it, the only sockets were tucked behind the bedside tables, so quite a bit of manoeuvring was required. The TV picture was static with a line across it, and in the bathroom a small trickle of water appeared on the floor from the sink. When I checked in, the bed was decorated with colourful covers and cushions, but after the first clean this was gone, and my four pillows reduced to three. Granted this was a Standard room, but the basics should not differ. Food was definitely a let down. Mie nlitaka chapati, haragwe, pilau, michuzi kila aina. Instead, the menu leaned heavily toward international cuisine. While it makes sense for foreign guests, one restaurant dedicated to local food would have been a real highlight. The hotel advertises six restaurants but in practice I only found two. The property is beachfront, but worth noting the beach is public. Overall, not a bad place to stay. Staff, setting, and pool are positives, but it falls short of polished 5-star service.

Hotel itself was absolutely amazing. Beautiful architecture and features on a big scale. Check in was seamless. Our room was big, and looked wonderful. Unfortunately the room had a broken balcony door. We were immediately offered another room, this one was fine but again not perfect and below the standard one would have expected for star hotel. Issues were primarily in the bathroom where certain finishing touches were lacking. The basin was tilted which meant the water did not flow out as it should as base was too high. We made do as we were exhausted from flight and having moved once already and reception manager had implied there were no rooms. Overall we enjoyed our stay, majority of the staff were friendly, helpful. I would certainly recommend the hotel and hope they get the perfect room as our friends did.

I stayed for 1 night as a solo traveler. The staff was excellent. However i'm not sure how this hotel has a 5star status. Very dated, and the upkeep you could tell was lacking. The bathroom tub leaked, from what you could tell was already a 'band aid' fix they already tried. When i looked to see where it was leaking, no one had cleaned behind the tub as there was cobwebs and a spider. The shower stall area was also so rundown, everything old.The water in the pool didnt look very clean, but in spite of that...i was shocked to see no covers where there had clearly been lights (inside the pool). Instead you could actually see the areas were open spaces with the wiring exposed. The whole dining area is open with no windows, which means alot of bugs. The night i went to eat, i ended up asking them to bring the food to my room. There were several large flying bugs i later found out were termites. Just know this isnt anywhere near a 5star hotel.

This property is beautiful and breathtaking. The views and the finishes are immaculate. Everything was clean and luxurious. The food and the staff on the other hand were not. It took over an hour for our food and waters to come. The orders were totally wrong. 2/3 of us actually got sick because they did not listen to our food allergies. We waited 30 minutes for our bill to come. And then, after a small disagreement were told, we didn’t have to pay for food that we didn’t actually eat. It just seems very unorganized and their communication was very poor. Not a language barrier, more like a lack of customer service skills. We only stayed here our last night in Zanzibar because we had an early flight the next morning, but if I stayed again I would definitely not eat on the property. Had we not got sick they would have gotten 4 stars.
