Weekend in York

Amazing. Booked basic room which was on 3rd floor. Lovely comfortable room very tasty breakfast and nearly all staff very friendly and welcoming. 10 minute walk to river cruise and Minster.

York stay 1st - 3rd Feb, 2019

Arrived just after checking time, and greeted by the hotel manager. The room (9) located downstairs (the old cellars) was of good size. The room and adjoining bathroom was clean.and well presented. The only down side was the heating. The bathroom was actually warmer than the main bedroom even with the radiator turn to full. On the good side, there was tea and coffee making available and replenished each morning, as well as, the towels, and bed being made. Breakfast, there was a full English or cereals with a selection of drinks. Location was spot on. Only a short walk to the main city centre where an abundance of shops, cafés. Bar's, and places of interest. We arrived on the 1st Fed and on the 2nd the town center held their Ice Tour. Well worth the venture in finding 50 ice sculptures around the center.

Pretty Good stay at Airden House

Airden House was a pretty good place to stay. We were able to park outside, check-in earlier than expected and were upgraded to a 'Jacuzzi Room' which was in the basement. My Wife is Coeliac and notice in advance meant that the breakfast the next day (which was pretty good) was suitable for her also. Location is great, 5 minutes walk to the Minster. Not so good point : I'm used to sleeping in pitch-black. The room we were in had emergency lighting (green glow from light above entrance door) constantly on in our room. It really was brighter than one might think and too high to throw a t-shirt over it. Also outside the windows there were uplighters that were on all night. The blinds did not sufficiently block this thus with both light sources on the room was illuminated, I woke up early, I did not get a good nights sleep although the bed was comfortable. Would I stay here again.... Yes, but something needs to be done about the light in the room.

Lovely place, great location, brilliant staff!

The hotel is immaculate and very lovely! The staff were very helpful and welcoming! Breakfast was lovely! Mattress was soft and the bed squeaked, so we slept with a little difficulty but I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend!

Overrated and certainly not worth the money.

We chose the room as it looked as if it suited our taste, but we were very disappointed firstly it was in a basement with no windows except in the bathroom so the lights had to be left on all the time and if you have mobility issues forget it as to get upstairs it’s like climbing the north face of the Eiger, paint was peeling off the walls and it was just the sheer disappointment of the whole room as it was so expensive. The only upside was the staff were very pleasant and the food very good.

Lovely room, in a lovely period house

Lovely room, in a lovely period house, in a lovely street. Just a few minutes from York Minster and even closer to the wonderful York gardens. Lots of restaurants nearby. Perfect location and alternative to the usual hotel chains.

Needs uparading, but good location

Having read lots of good reviews about this Guest House we were disappointed to find that it had clearly been over rated. The room was at the rear of the property which was noisy overnight. The room was unbelievably hot and bed uncomfortable. The onsuite shower room was very poor and my husband struggled to fit in the small shower. On the positive side the location to the centre was excellent and the breakfast was very good, served by a helpful and polite member of staff.

Centrally located - good for city tour

3 nights in York - central location - good breakfast - staff helpful and friendly (mostly :-). Hotel sends information that access during certain times is via Key-Code. Problem is: this information comes with "2 pages of small print" and 3 months before arrival - so we forgot it. Might be a good idea to put a sign on the door to remind guests arriving early (or late) to check their E-Mail ...

Comfortable B&B

Very nice B&B located in close walking distance to the old city. Older building so expect narrow steep stairs, no air con (west sun) and limited parking. Breakfast was generous but short service window made it seem busy and hurried. Staff at times seemed to be a bit overwhelmed.
